What is a Gossip Stone?

Gossip Stone in OoT

Gossip Stones are interactive stone monuments marked with the Mask of Truth symbol found throughout Hyrule in Ocarina of Time. They react to various attacks and interactions. Using the Mask of Truth, they provide gameplay hints and lore trivia. They can also be used to restore Health and the Magic Meter.

Use Mask of Truth

Using Mask of Truth

Equip the Mask of Truth and interact with a Gossip Stone to receive hints about hidden treasure locations, along with various pieces of in-game trivia.

How to Get Mask of Truth

TipsNote!You can only use the Mask of Truth as Child Link.

Hit with a Sword

Attack with Sword

Once struck with a Sword, the Gossip Stone will display the current in-game time.

Use Bomb or Bombchus

When struck by an explosive, such as a Bomb or Bombchu, the Gossip Stone flashes blue before launching into the sky after a short delay.

Use a Projectile Weapon

When struck by a projectile, such as an Arrow, Hookshot, Slingshot Pellet, or Boomerang, the Gossip Stone briefly wiggles.

Use Din's Fire

Using Din's Fire near a Gossip Stone causes it to spin rapidly and then stretch before returning to its original shape.

Hit with Megaton Hammer

When struck with the Megaton Hammer, the Gossip Stone is flattened before returning to its original shape.

How to Get Megaton Hammer

Play Specific Song

Playing Zelda's Lullaby, Sun's Song, Epona's Song, or the Song of Time near a Gossip Stone causes it to release a Fairy that can be captured with an Empty Bottle. If Link's health is depleted, the captured Fairy will automatically revive him and restore some of his Hearts.

Play Song of Storms

Playing the Song of Storms near a Gossip Stone causes a Big Fairy to appear, restoring 8 Hearts and fully refilling your Magic Meter. However, the Big Fairy cannot be captured.
