Intro - Until Meeting the Great Deku Tree

Choose Your Name and Start the Game

Ocarina of Time - Name Selection

When starting Ocarina of Time, first choose a name for the protagonist, referred to as Link from here on. Select a save slot after choosing a name to begin the game.

Once You Can Move, Head Outside

Once you can move in Ocarina of Time, head outside

After the intro cutscene, the game moves into Link's house. Head outside once you gain control of Link.

How to Get a Sword and Shield

Ocarina of Time - Kokiri Forest

First, enter the crawl space in the Forest Training Center in the southwest of the village. The Forest Training Center is the fenced-off area at the top of the slope.

Crawl Through Holes with the A button

Ocarina of Time - Crawling Input

The back of the Forest Training Center may look like a dead end, but a small crawl space is hidden there. Crouch with the A Button to enter the crawl space.

Where to Get a Sword

Ocarina of Time - Kokiri Sword

Large boulders roll through the Forest Training Center, so avoid them as you head toward the back. Follow the boulders' path, then open the chest at the end to obtain the Kokiri Sword before leaving the Forest Training Center.

Collect Rupees Along the Way

Ocarina of Time - Blue Rupee

Rupees are scattered throughout the Forest Training Center. You'll need 40 Rupees to progress the story, so collect them as you go.

Where to Get a Shield

Ocarina of Time - Deku Shield

After obtaining the sword, head inside the shop to the east and buy the Deku Shield. It costs 40 Rupees, so earn money from cutting grass and other methods.

You Only Need 35 Rupees

Ocarina of Time - Hidden Rupees

There are 5 Rupees hidden behind the back corner of the shop, so you only need 35 Rupees before entering the shop. Keep this in mind, as collecting Rupees this early can be time-consuming.

Earn Rupees by Jumping Across the Stepping Stones

Simply jump across the stepping stones in the pond outside the shop to collect 5 Rupees. Even better, entering and exiting a house resets the Rupee reward, allowing you to farm Rupees infinitely.

Talk to the NPC Blocking the Eastern Passage

Ocarina of Time - Mido

Once you have equipped the sword and shield, speak to Mido, who blocks the eastern passage. If you have both equipped, he will move out of the way.

Defeat Enemies and Follow the Path

Defeat enemies and follow the path in Ocarina of Time

Follow the path and defeat the Deku Baba around the bend. The Deku Sticks they drop are essential for progressing through the game, so try to collect about 3.

Reach the End for a Cutscene

Ocarina of Time - Great Deku Tree

After exiting the linear path, a conversation with the Great Deku Tree begins. Once the scene ends, you'll enter the Great Deku Tree.
