How to Defeat Volvagia
In Ocarina of Time, hitting Volvagia with the Megaton Hammer when it emerges from the hole will stagger it and open up an opportunity to attack. Hang from the edge of the platform to dodge the boulder attack, then wait for your chance to strike.
Hit with the Megaton Hammer when it emerges from the hole
Volvagia repeatedly goes in and out of holes in the arena floor. Striking its exposed head with the Megaton Hammer will stagger it and create an opportunity to attack, so aim for those moments. However, there is a hitbox the instant it emerges from the hole, so it is recommended to dodge the flames from its head before moving in.
When its HP is low, it may throw in a feint
When Volvagia's HP gets low, it may try to confuse you by faking which hole it will emerge from. Make sure to confirm that it has actually appeared before going in with the Megaton Hammer to stagger it.
Dodge the boulder attack by hanging from the edge of the platform
When Volvagia flies straight up high, it will drop boulders over a wide area. You won't be hit if you hang from the edge of the platform, so as soon as you see the telegraph move, quickly head to the edge.
Attack with the Bow while it is airborne
After emerging from a hole, Volvagia may circle the arena in low-altitude flight. During this time your sword cannot reach it, so use Z-targeting and attack with the Bow.
