How to Defeat Ganon

In Ocarina of Time, Ganon can be defeated by circling behind him and attacking his weak point, his tail. During the first half, you cannot use the Master Sword, so make full use of weapons like Biggoron's Sword and the Megaton Hammer.

First Half: Fight Without the Master Sword

Master Sword in Ocarina of Time

During the opening cutscene, Ganon knocks the Master Sword out of your hands, so you must fight the first half without it. Besides Biggoron's Sword and the Megaton Hammer, you can damage his tail with Arrows, Bombs, and Deku Nuts. Keep attacking his tail to end the first phase.

Circle Behind Ganon and Attack His Tail

Ocarina of Time - Ganon's Weakspot

Ganon's weak point is his tail. Attacks from the front deal no damage, so dodge his attacks, circle behind him, and strike his tail.

Hit Ganon's Face with a Light Arrow to Stun Him

Hitting Ganon's face with a Light Arrow stops him in his tracks. Use this opening to get behind him and safely attack his tail. Regular arrows, the Longshot, and Deku Nuts can also briefly stun him if you want to conserve Light Arrows.

Can Also Roll Between Ganon's Legs

If you time it between Ganon's attacks, you can run between his legs to get behind him. Use this technique to conserve Magic and arrows.

Second Half: Attack with the Master Sword

Ocarina of Time - Princess Zelda and the Master Sword

After the first phase, Ganon collapses, and the flames surrounding the arena disappear. Pick up the Master Sword near Princess Zelda. In the second phase, Ganon's attacks become more intense, so the safest strategy is to shoot his face with a Light Arrow to stun him, then get behind him and attack his tail with the Master Sword.

Use Biggoron's Sword or Hammer

Biggoron or Hammer

In the Ganon fight, Biggoron's Sword and the Megaton Hammer deal the most damage. After stunning Ganon with a Light Arrow, switch to either weapon and use a Jump Attack on his tail to deal heavy damage.

How to Get Biggoron's Sword

Break Rubble to Restock and Recover

Smashing the rubble around the arena can drop Fairies, Magic Jars, Arrows, and Bombs. You can destroy rubble with Bombs or lure Ganon's attacks into it. Use this to restock Magic or arrows for Light Arrows.

Finish Ganon with the Master Sword

Keep attacking Ganon's tail until he collapses. Then, deliver the final blow with the Master Sword to complete the battle.
