Happy Mask Shop Guide

Show Letter to Gatekeeper in Kakariko Village

First, progress through the main story until you can show Zelda's Letter to the Gatekeeper in Kakariko Village. This is a mandatory story event, so you will naturally reach this point as you advance through the game.

Go to the Mask Shop in Hyrule Castle Market

Go to Hyrule Castle Market and enter the Mask Shop located in front of the Temple of Time.

Get the Keaton Mask

Talk to the Mask Shop owner and get the Keaton Mask.

Talk to Gatekeeper in Kakariko Village

Return to Kakariko Village and speak to the guard while wearing the Keaton Mask to sell it. He will purchase the mask for 15 Rupees, earning you a 5 Rupee profit.

Pay the Mask Shop and Get the Skull Mask

Return to the Mask Shop and pay 10 Rupees. You will now be able to select and borrow the Skull Mask.

Talk to the Skull Kid in the Lost Woods

Enter the Lost Woods from Kokiri Forest, then take the first path to the left to find the Skull Kid. Talk to him while wearing the Skull Mask to sell it. He will only pay 10 Rupees, so be sure to have an additional 10 Rupees when you return the sales proceeds to the Happy Mask Shop.

Play Saria's Song on the Stump if You Can't Talk

When you first arrive, you won't be able to talk to the Skull Kid. Stand on the nearby stump and play Saria's Song to receive a Heart Piece. Afterward, you'll be able to talk to the Skull Kid.

Pay the Mask Shop and Get the Spooky Mask

Return to the Mask Shop and give them 20 Rupees. You will now be able to select and borrow the Spooky Mask.

Talk to the Boy in the Graveyard

Go to the Graveyard on the east side of Kakariko Village and talk to the Graveyard Boy while wearing the Spooky Mask to sell it.

Pay the Mask Shop and Get the Bunny Hood

Return to the Happy Mask Shop and pay the remaining 30 Rupees. Afterward, you'll be able to borrow the Bunny Hood.

Advance the Story Until You Get the Ocarina of Time

The Marathon Man, who buys the Bunny Hood, does not appear until after you obtain the Ocarina of Time during the main story. If you're currently exploring a dungeon, continue progressing through the story first.

Talk to Marathon Man in Hyrule Field

Talk to the Marathon Man in Hyrule Field while wearing the Bunny Hood to sell it. You can't talk to him while he's running during the day, so wait until night and speak to him while he is resting. After giving him the Bunny Hood, you'll receive Rupees equal to your current Wallet's maximum capacity.

Go Clockwise Around Hyrule Field to Locate

The Marathon Man runs counterclockwise around Lon Lon Ranch in Hyrule Field, making him easier to find if you search in the opposite direction. As soon as you find him, play the Sun's Song to change it to Night.

Pay the Mask Shop to Finish

Return to the Happy Mask Shop and pay the remaining 50 Rupees to receive the "Mask of Truth", completing the Mask Trading Sequence. Afterward, three additional masks will become available to borrow.

There is Also a Mask Trading Sequence as Adult

This completes the Child era Mask Trading Sequence. As an Adult, you'll have access to a separate trading sequence with different rewards, so be sure to complete that one as well if you haven't already.
