Happy Mask Shop Location

Located in Hyrule Castle Market

Happy Shop

The Happy Mask Shop in Ocarina of Time is located in Hyrule Castle Market, directly across from the Temple of Time.

Only Accessible as a Child

The Happy Mask Shop is only accessible as Child Link in the past. If you want to progress through the entire mask trading sequence, be sure that you are in the correct time period.

Trading Sequence Walkthrough

Show Letter to Gatekeeper in Kakariko Village

Kakariko Village

Progress through the story until you're blocked by the gatekeeper in Kakariko Village. Showing him Zelda's letter will open the way forward while also unlocking the Happy Mask Shop. Since showing the gatekeeper is a mandatory event, you will naturally unlock the Happy Mask Shop.

Go to the Mask Shop in Hyrule Castle Market

Happy Shop

Return to Hyrule Castle Market and enter the Mask Shop located in front of the Temple of Time.

Get the Keaton Mask

Keaton Mask

Talk to the Mask Shop owner and get the Keaton Mask for 10 Rupees.

Return to Kakariko Village

Kaeton Mask to Gatekeeper

Return to Kakariko Village and speak to the gatekeeper while wearing the Keaton Mask. He will purchase the mask for 15 Rupees, netting you a profit of 5 Rupees.

Pay the Mask Shop and Borrow the Skull Mask

Skull Mask

Return to the Happy Mask Shop in Hyrule Castle Market and pay 10 Rupees for the previous Keaton Mask. This unlocks Skull Mask for borrowing.

Talk to the Skull Kid in the Lost Woods

Lost Woods

Enter the Lost Woods from Kokiri Forest, then take the first path to the left to find the Skull Kid. Talk to the Skull Kid while wearing the Skull Mask and he will only offer to pay 10 Rupees for it. Prepare an extra 10 Rupees for when you return to the Happy Mask Shop.

Play Saria's Song on the Stump to Talk

Saria Song at Skull Kid

If you haven't already, be sure to play Saria's Song while standing on the nearby stump. Doing so will grant you a Heart Piece and allow you to speak to the Skull Kid.

Pay the Mask Shop and Get the Spooky Mask

Spooky Mask

Return to the Happy Mask Shop in Hyrule Castle Market and pay 20 Rupees for the previous Skull Mask. This unlocks the Spooky Mask for borrowing.

Talk to the Boy in the Graveyard

Graveyard Boy

Go to the Graveyard on the east side of Kakariko Village and talk to the Boy in the Graveyard while wearing the Spooky Mask. He will then offer to purchase it for 30 Rupees.

Pay the Mask Shop and Get the Bunny Hood

Bunny Hood

Return to the Happy Mask Shop and pay 30 Rupees for the previous Spooky Mask. This unlocks the Bunny Hood for borrowing.

Advance Until You Get the Ocarina of Time

Ocarina of Time

The Bunny Hood can be sold to the Marathon Man who only appears after obtaining the Ocarina of Time. If you haven't already acquired the Ocarina of Time, continue progressing through the story until you receive it.

Talk to the Marathon Man in Hyrule Field

Marathon Man

Talk to the Marathon Man in Hyrule Field while wearing the Bunny Hood to sell it. You can't talk to him while he's running during the day, so wait until night and speak to him while he is resting. After giving him the Bunny Hood, you'll receive Rupees equal to your current Wallet's maximum capacity.

How to Locate the Marathon Man

Hyrule Field Marathon Man

The Marathon Man runs counterclockwise around Lon Lon Ranch in Hyrule Field, making him easier to find if you search in the opposite direction. As soon as you find him, play the Sun's Song to change it to Night.

Pay the Mask Shop to Finish

Mask of Truth

Return to the Happy Mask Shop and pay 50 Rupees to receive the Mask of Truth, completing the Mask Trading Sequence. Afterward, three additional masks will become available to borrow.

There is Also a Mask Trading Sequence as Adult

This completes the Child era Mask Trading Sequence. As an Adult, you'll have access to a separate trading sequence with different rewards, so be sure to complete that one as well if you haven't already.

Happy Mask Shop Rewards

Able to Borrow Masks for Free

Free Borrow

After completing the Happy Mask Trading Sequence in Ocarina of Time, you'll be able to borrow the masks used during the event. Borrowing masks is free of charge, but you can only borrow one mask at a time.

Unlocks Mask of Truth + 3 Other Masks

Mask of Truth

By completing the Event to the end, in addition to the "Mask of Truth", the Goron, Zora, and Gerudo Masks will be unlocked. Wearing the Mask of Truth allows you to read people's minds and hear rumors from Gossip Stone.
