Hyrule Castle Location
Hyrule Castle Location
Hyrule Castle is located north of Hyrule Castle Town, which can be reached by traveling to the northern part of Hyrule Field. Castle Town is closed at night, so you'll need to wait until daytime before entering.
Leave Kokiri Forest and Enter Hyrule Field

After returning to Kokiri Forest from the Great Deku Tree, leave the village through the western exit and enter Hyrule Field.
Get the Fairy Ocarina Before Leaving the Forest

Before leaving the forest, a conversation with Saria will trigger where she'll give Link the Fairy Ocarina. The Fairy Ocarina lets you play songs you've learned, each with their own unique effect.
List of Ocarina SongsHead North Across Hyrule Field

Shortly after entering Hyrule Field, you'll encounter a cutscene with Kaepora Gaebora. Once it ends, use the minimap to head north toward Hyrule Castle Town.
Castle Town Is Closed at Night
You cannot enter Hyrule Castle Town at night. You'll have to wait until daytime before you can enter the Castle Town.
Enter From the North Side of Castle Town

After speaking with Malon, take the northern exit of Castle Town to enter the Hyrule Castle exterior. Follow the path ahead to trigger another conversation with Kaepora Gaebora.

How to Get Into Hyrule Castle

Return to the Market and Re-enter the Castle
Return to the Market before re-entering the area outside the castle. This causes Malon to move from the center of the Market to the area outside the castle.
Malon Will Also Move If You Get Caught by a Guard
If you skipped the previous step, Malon will move if a guard catches you and sends you back to the castle entrance.
Receive the Weird Egg from Malon

Malon will move a short distance from the entrance, near the climbable vines. Speak to her to receive the Weird Egg.
Locate Malon's Father
Sneak through the outskirts without being spotted and find the wooden crates where Malon's father is sleeping.
Wait for the Egg to Hatch into a Cucco

The Weird Egg automatically hatches into a Cucco at dawn. You can wait next to Malon's father without affecting the hatching. Wait until the egg hatches to proceed.
Use the Cucco to Wake Up Malon's Father

Assign the Cucco to a C button and use it next to Malon's father. He will wake up and, after a conversation, return to Malon.
Until Meeting Princess Zelda

Push Crate to the Waterway to Create a Path
Push the wooden crate near where Malon's father was sleeping to create a path to the small waterway gate. Once the path is open, proceed through the gate.
Sneak Past the Guards

Advance through the castle without being spotted by guards. Even at close range, standing directly behind a guard prevents them from spotting you., so for areas with multiple guards, sneak around and get behind them.

Speak to Princess Zelda

Once you're past the guards, continue forward to find Princess Zelda. Speaking to her triggers a cutscene.
Obtain Zelda's Letter

After the cutscene, Princess Zelda will grant you Zelda's Letter.
Speak to Impa

Move towards the exit and dialogue with Impa will trigger, afterwards you'll be teleported outside the castle.
Learn Zelda's Lullaby During the Conversation

Impa will teach you how to play Zelda's Lullaby on your Ocarina. Zelda's Lullaby is primarily used to trigger certain mechanics, so try to remember it.

Go to Lon Lon Ranch During the Day

After leaving Hyrule Castle Town, head to the center of Hyrule Field during the day to reach Lon Lon Ranch. This side event cannot be progressed at night.
How to Get Epona

After arriving at the ranch, speak to Malon in the horse enclosure. Talk to her three times to learn Epona's Song.
Play Epona's Song

Play Epona's Song in front of the chestnut foal near Malon to befriend young Epona. This will allow you to obtain her later in the story.

You Can Play the Cucco-Catching Game at the Ranch

Talon is inside the house with the orange roof. Talk to him to start the Cucco-catching game. Find the 3 specific Cuccos among the others to earn an Empty Bottle filled with Lon Lon Milk.
Head to Kakariko Village Northeast of Hyrule

Exit the ranch and walk through Hyrule Field to reach Kakariko Village in the northeast.
Go to the Graveyard East of the Village

Once you arrive at Kakariko Village, go straight to the graveyard to the east.
Optional: Locate 7 Cuccos in Kakariko
The woman near the graveyard will ask you to find her missing Cuccos. Find all 7 Cuccos in Kakariko Village and return them to the pen near her. Completing the request rewards you with an Empty Bottle.
Play Zelda's Lullaby Above the Triforce

Move to the back of the Graveyard to locate the Royal Family's Tomb. Stand above the Triforce symbol and play Zelda's Lullaby.
Enter the Royal Family's Tomb

Playing the lullaby destroys the tombstone, revealing an entrance to the Royal Family's Tomb. Enter through the opening and proceed deeper inside.
Defeat 4 Keese to Unlock the Door

The first room contains a blocked door, and four bat-like enemies called Keese
. One is near the entrance, while the other three are in the central area. Defeat all four Keese to unlock the door.
Learn the Sun's Song at the Deepest Part

The next rooms contain ReDeads, which can latch onto you. Avoid them as you make your way through the tomb to reach the stone tablet at the end. Examine the tablet to learn the Sun's Song, which lets you switch between Night and Day.

Head to Death Mountain from Kakariko Village

After learning the Sun's Song, head to Death Mountain north of Kakariko Village. The entrance is blocked by a guard, but show him Zelda's Letter to open the way.
Buy the Hylian Shield

Speaking to the guard discounts the Hylian Shield at the general store in Hyrule Castle Town. This shield is useful in later dungeons, so consider buying it while it's discounted.
Conversation Opens Happy Mask Shop

After showing the guard Zelda's Letter, he mentions that his child wants a particular mask. This opens the Happy Mask Shop in Hyrule Market, allowing you to start the Item Trading side quest.
