Hyrule Castle Location
Head North Through Hyrule Castle
Hyrule Castle is located north of Hyrule Castle Town, which can be reached by traveling to the northern part of Hyrule Field. Castle Town is closed at night, so you'll need to wait until daytime before entering.
Leave Kokiri Forest and Enter Hyrule Field

After returning to Kokiri Forest from the Great Deku Tree, leave the village through the western exit and enter Hyrule Field.
Get the Fairy Ocarina Before Leaving the Forest

Before leaving the forest, you'll trigger a conversation with Saria and receive the Fairy Ocarina. The Fairy Ocarina lets you play songs you've learned, each with its own unique effect.
Head North Across Hyrule Field

Shortly after entering Hyrule Field, you'll encounter a cutscene with Kaepora Gaebora. Once it ends, use the minimap to head north toward Hyrule Castle Town.
Castle Town Is Closed at Night
You cannot enter Hyrule Castle Town at night. You'll have to wait until daytime before continuing to the town.
Enter From the North Side of Castle Town

After speaking with Malon, head to the north side of Castle Town to enter Hyrule Castle. Follow the path ahead to trigger another conversation with Kaepora Gaebora.

Until You Wake Up Malon's Father
Return to the Market and Re-enter the Castle
Once you enter the castle area, head back to the Market first, then re-enter the castle area. By following this step, Malon, who was standing in the center of the Market, will move to the castle-side map.
Malon Will Also Move If You Get Caught by a Guard

Even if you proceed through the castle without returning to the Market, Malon will move to the castle-side map when a guard catches you and sends you back to the castle entrance.
Receive the Weird Egg from Malon

After being sent back to the entrance, Malon will be a short distance ahead. Talk to her to receive the Weird Egg.
Head to Where Malon's Father is Sleeping
Sneak through the castle without being spotted by guards, and head to the spot near the wooden crates where a person (Malon's father) is sleeping on the ground.
Wait for the Egg to Hatch into a Cucco

The Weird Egg you're carrying will automatically hatch into a Cucco at dawn. If you wait next to Malon's father, it will hatch right there, so wait until the hatching is complete.
Use the Cucco to Wake Up Malon's Father

Assign the Cucco to a C button and use it right next to Malon's father. Malon's father will wake up, and after the conversation event, he will return to Malon.
Until Meeting Princess Zelda
Push Crate to the Waterway to Create a Path
Push the wooden crate near where Malon's father was sleeping to create a path to the small waterway gate. Once the path is open, proceed through the gate.
Advance Without Being Spotted by Guards

Advance through the castle without being spotted by guards. If you stay behind a guard, you won't be detected even at close range, so the trick in areas with multiple guards is to move around and get behind them.

Follow the Path and Speak with Princess Zelda

Follow the path and you will find Princess Zelda. Talk to her to trigger a conversation event.
Obtain Zelda's Letter After the Event

After the conversation event with Princess Zelda, you will obtain Zelda's Letter.
Retrace Steps to Trigger Impa Dialogue Event

Backtrack a short way and a conversation event with Impa will trigger, after which you will be forcibly escorted outside the castle.
Learn Zelda's Lullaby During the Conversation

During the conversation, you will be taught the melody of Zelda's Lullaby. Zelda's Lullaby is used to activate certain mechanisms, so be sure to remember it.

- Go to Lon Lon Ranch During the Day
- Talk to Malon at the Center of the Ranch
- Play Epona's Song
- Head to Kakariko Village Northeast of Hyrule
- Go to the Graveyard East of the Village
- Play Zelda's Lullaby at the Royal Family's Crest
- Enter the Royal Family's Tomb
- Learn the Sun's Song at the Deepest Part
- Head to Death Mountain from Kakariko Village
Go to Lon Lon Ranch During the Day

After the Zelda event, head to Lon Lon Ranch in the center of Hyrule Field during the day. You cannot progress the side event at night.
Talk to Malon at the Center of the Ranch

When you arrive at the ranch, talk to Malon at the center. Talk to her a total of 3 times and then take out your Ocarina to be taught "Epona's Song."
Play Epona's Song

Play "Epona's Song" in front of the chestnut foal near Malon. You will befriend the young Epona, which will lead to obtaining the horse later in the story.
You Can Play the Cucco-Catching Game at the Ranch

Talon is in the house with the orange roof at the ranch. Talk to him to play the Cucco-catching game. Find the 3 winning Cuccos from among the multiple Cuccos and you will receive an Empty Bottle filled with Lon Lon Milk as a reward.
Head to Kakariko Village Northeast of Hyrule

Leave the ranch, return to Hyrule Field, and head to Kakariko Village in the northeast.
Go to the Graveyard East of the Village

Once you arrive at Kakariko Village, head to the graveyard to the east.
You Will Be Asked to Find Cuccos in the Village
Talk to the woman near the graveyard and she will ask you to find some Cuccos. Find all 7 Cuccos in Kakariko Village and put them in the pen behind the woman to complete the request. You'll receive an Empty Bottle as a reward, so give it a try if you have the time.
Play Zelda's Lullaby at the Royal Family's Crest

Once you reach the graveyard, head to the Royal Family's Tomb at the very back. There is a royal crest in front of the tomb, so take out your Ocarina and play Zelda's Lullaby.
Enter the Royal Family's Tomb

After playing the lullaby, an entrance to the Royal Family's Tomb will appear where the grave was. Enter through the opening and head deeper inside.
The First Room Door Opens After Defeating 4 Keese

In the Royal Family's Tomb, the door in the first room is blocked. There is 1 flying enemy "Keese" in the entrance corridor and 3 more inside the room — defeat all of them to open the door.
Learn the Sun's Song at the Deepest Part

At the deepest part of the Royal Family's Tomb there is a stone tablet. Examine it to learn the Ocarina song "Sun's Song." It is a handy song that lets you switch between day and night, so be sure to remember it.
Head to Death Mountain from Kakariko Village

After learning the Sun's Song, head to Death Mountain to the north of Kakariko Village. The entrance is blocked by a gate, but show Zelda's Letter to the guard nearby and he will open it for you.
Buy the Hylian Shield in the Market Beforehand

When you talk to the guard near the gate, the Hylian Shield sold at the general store in the Market will be discounted. It will come in handy for clearing later dungeons, so pick it up now while you have the chance.
Happy Mask Shop Opens After Hearing About Masks

After giving the letter to the guard, you will hear about a child who wants a mask. After listening, the Happy Mask Shop will open in Hyrule Market, and you will be able to progress the Mask Trading Sequence.
