How to Defeat Phantom Ganon
In Ocarina of Time, during Phase 1 you need to shoot Phantom Ganon the instant he flies out of his painting, and during Phase 2 you need to deflect his energy ball to deal damage. Timing your attacks is key with this boss, so watch carefully and get a feel for the rhythm.
Phase 1: Shoot Phantom Ganon the Moment He Bursts Out of His Painting
Phantom Ganon has two phases, and in the first phase you can only deal damage when he flies out of one of the surrounding paintings. When Phantom Ganon charges toward you and a purple gate appears, shoot him with your Bow.
The Real One Is Brighter in Color Than the Fake

There are two Phantom Ganons — one real and one fake — and you can tell them apart by how bright their colors are. It can be hard to judge unless they're side by side, but once you memorize the difference you can focus on attacking without being fooled.
You Can Also Tell by Sound — Earphones Recommended
You can hear the sound of a horse's hoofbeats coming from the real one. However, it can be a bit difficult to determine the direction using the Switch's built-in speaker, so if you want to be precise, try wearing earphones.
Phase 1: Stand in Front of the Paintings to Dodge Attacks Safely

During Phase 1, attacks are fired from the center toward the corners of the hexagonal room. That means standing in front of one of the paintings — along the edges — keeps you safe from all attacks. You give up one direction, but it lets you safely focus on the other five paintings, so it's highly recommended.
Phase 2: Deflect His Energy Ball When He Is Far Away
In Phase 2, deflect the energy ball Phantom Ganon fires at you with your sword. When he is at a distance and you deflect it, he will deflect it back and the rally continues, so don't let your guard down after one deflection. Once you knock him down, move in close and slash him with your sword.

When Phantom Ganon is at close range, deflecting the ball will just send it flying past him to the side. Since attempting to deflect it puts you at risk of getting hit, guard and wait it out until he moves away.
