The Odd Shards is used as a weapon upgrade material of characters. Weapon Upgrade is available after clearing the Uniting The Seven Nopon quest. Upgrading weapon requires a lot of Odd Shards to it is close to an end-game content.

Odd Shards → Origin Shard

The progress of Uniting The Seven Nopon quest reveals that the Odd Shard is the Origin Shard and all Odd Shards gets renamed to Origin Shard afterwards.

The Odd Shard that is used to upgrade the weapon of all characters can be collected during your first playthrough by defeating all unique monsters.

Get From Unique Monsters In Different Locations

Origin Shards can be obtained by defeating unique monsters that are located in different locations and by picking up those that are scattered in the area. It is recommended to defeat all unique monsters during your first New Game.
