Memory Encroachment is a debuff type of mechanic triggered by choices in Chaos run events.

Dimensional Tunnel Event
Memory Encroachment can be triggered by events in Unidentified Areas in the Dimensional Tunnels. When Memory Encroachment appears in the choices, selecting it will increase your Memory Encroachment level for that run.
Can Be Stacked
Memory Encroachment is a stackable mechanic that accumulates based on choices made during a Chaos run. As stacks increase, the penalties applied during combat become progressively more severe.
Memory Encroachment Level
Different choices increase Memory Encroachment by varying amounts. Some options only raise it by 1 or 2 levels and can be stacked up to five times.
Memory Encroachment Effects
Unlock Rare Species Effect
At 5 stacks, Memory Encroachment activates the Rare Species effect in non–Dimensional Tunnel battles, greatly increasing difficulty and making it a high-risk state.
How to Find Rare Species in Map
Battle areas that contain a Rare Species are marked with a distinct purple icon on the map. By checking the map before entering a node, you can immediately determine whether the upcoming fight includes a Rare Species modifier.
More Powerful Monsters Appear
When you enter a normal battle area marked with this icon, the encounter will be enhanced by the Rare Species effect, which typically increases enemy threat compared to standard enemies.
Rare Species Special Effects
Most Rare Species bosses are surrounded by a rainbow-colored visual effect.
Multiple Rare Species Effects
In certain battle areas, you may encounter two or more Rare Species simultaneously. These encounters are visually marked by a golden glow effect.
