Western Cave - How To Unlock & Overview
Fight Mewtwo On 20th Floor
The Western Cave has 20 floors and houses mainly Psychic Pokemon. At the top floor, you'll fight with the man-made Psychic legendary Pokemon, Mewtwo.
Defeat Ho-Oh To Unlock Western Cave
This bonus mystery dungeon is unlocked after you defeat Ho-Oh in Mt. Faraway. It's part of the Ho-Oh quest line.

1. Western Cave - Battle Tips
Recommended Level: 50+
It's best to be level 50 and above when you venture into Western Cave. You'll be faced with Pokemon at around this level, so it's best to have a slight edge in power.

It's best to bring Dark or Bug Pokemon to fight off the plethora of Psychic-types you'll encounter in Western Cave.

Jynx has the Dark-type move "Lick" that can paralyze its enemy while Girafarig's "Crunch" move is super effective against Psychic Pokemon.

Tips To Defeat Mewtwo
Use Debuff To Incapacitate Mewtwo
Paralysis from Electric-type moves, Sleep from Altaria's Sing or Kirlia's Hypnosis, as well as Flinching using Absol's Bite or Girafarig are all useful debuffs to slow down Mewtwo and lock him in place for you to deal damage.
Link Moves To Do More Damage
Linking attacks can easily drain your energy but can do powerful attacks at the same time. Link moves that can lower Mewtwo's defense with supereffective attacks to deal more damage per hit.
Mega Evolves When HP Lowers
Mewtwo will Mega Evolve when its HP goes down too much. Watch out for bigger and faster damage so continue to debuff him to slow him down.

How To Recruit Mewtwo
Chance To Recruit Mewtwo After Defeating
After defeating Mewtwo in battle, you have a chance to recruit it and have it come home with you. To up your chances, have a party member hold a "Friend Bow" or have the Rare Quality "Squad Up" or "Friendly".

Even if you have no extra space in your party or don't have the Rescue Camp for Mewtwo, it'll still come home once it gets recruited. They make their own Rescue Camp when you recruit it.
