Who is Ellie?
Ellie is a young girl taken in by Joel Miller and one of the centers of the story in the Last of Us 2. Now a young adult, she's become the protagonist of Part II.

Witnessed Joel's Death
Upon finding Joel and Tommy's location, Ellie rushed to rescue them, only be ambushed and held down by Abby group. There she witnessed the death of Joel in Abby's hands.

Although Ellie and Tommy were spared by Abby's group, Ellie took it upon herself to get revenge for Joel's death. She goes after Tommy who already went out of Jackson to hunt after Abby and the others.
Killing Abby's Friends One by One
Ellie meets with a number of Abby's friends on her warpath to Abby. She ended up killing a lot of Abby's friends either in self-defense or to get information out of them. Some of these ended up traumatizing Ellie.
Confrontation with Abby
Abby and Ellie finally meet in the Theater during Infiltration and Confrontation. Killing Jesse and incapacitating Dinah, Tommy, and Ellie, Abby decides to spare them before leaving.
Time Skip, Living in the Farm
After the confrontation, we see a time skip. Ellie is now living with Dinah and baby JJ in a farm. We see a brief look into their life with them sharing chores between them and taking care of JJ.

Their simple life becomes disrupted when Tommy visits them with information on Abby's location. Ellie is hesitant, but Tommy's insistent they continue their revenge against Abby.
Going to Santa Barbara after Abby
With information on Abby, Ellie leaves the farm and her family to complete her revenge. She goes to Santa Barbara to finally complete her revenge.

Saving Abby and Lev, they all head to the beach and as Abby loads the boat, Ellie threatens Lev to make Abby fight her. During the fight, Ellie loses two of her fingers and as she has Abby overpowered, she remembers Joel and decides to let Abby and Lev go.

Ellie returns to the farm battered only to find it empty of Dinah and JJ. She tries to play the guitar and finds herself unable to anymore with only 3 fingers left in one hand. With her final link to Joel severed and her family gone, she leaves the farm.
