This is a beginner-friendly guide to Chen Gong in Fate/Grand Order (English). It breaks down what makes Chen Gong strong, his basic stats, skills, and Noble Phantasm, plus the Ascension and skill-up materials you'll need to raise them.

Chen Gong's Strengths

High-Damage Attacker Capable of Sacrificing Allies

Chen Gong is a high-damage Attacker who sacrifices the leftmost teammate to use his Noble Phantasm (NP). Despite having an AoE NP, it has multipliers similar to those of Single-Target NPs, allowing him to have high damage output even as a 2-star. He can be used for daily farming and in high-difficulty quests thanks to his exceptional NP damage.

Noble Phantasm Damage Increases with Overcharge (OC)

Chen Gong's Noble Phantasm deals increased damage based on his Overcharge Level. While not essential, it's a nice bonus if you can stack NPs or use Overcharge buffs to further increase his damage.

Pair Him with Damage Support Servants

Chen Gong has no self-buffs in his skillset, so he relies on supports to boost his damage. Pairing him with four or more damage-buffing supports allows you to fully maximize his NP's high multipliers.

Powerful Back-to-Back NP Spamming Utilizing Sacrifices

Chen Gong's NP effect of sacrificing an ally allows backline Servants to enter the field. This mechanic helps cycle out Servants whose Skills are on cooldown and bring in supports to provide NP batteries and/or buffs.

Sacrifices Follow a Strict Order from the Frontline

Chen Gong's NP sacrifice mechanic targets the leftmost ally (excluding Chen Gong himself). This also triggers any On-Death effects, so you can equip Craft Essences like "Battle of Camlann" to activate powerful party-wide effects.

	The Merciless One (★5) - Charges party NP by 15% (MLB: 20%) when the holder is defeated. - Increases holder's Buster performance by 10% (MLB: 15%).
	Battle of Camlann (★3) - Obtainable via Friend Point Summon. - Charges party NP by 10% (MLB: 15%) when the holder is defeated.

Cannot Fire His Noble Phantasm by Himself

Chen Gong's Noble Phantasm requires at least one ally on the field to be used. This means he cannot use his NP if he is the only Servant remaining. You can work around this sacrifice mechanic by applying a Guts buff to the targeted ally, allowing them to be "revived" and enabling Chen Gong to use his NP multiple times in a row.

Easy NP Refund via High-Hit-Count Noble Phantasm

Chen Gong's Noble Phantasm has a high hit count. As it is an Arts-type AoE NP, he can easily refund a significant amount of his NP gauge after use. With NP Gain Up and Arts Effectiveness Up buffs from allies, Chen Gong can refund even more of his NP gauge.

Has a 10% Teamwide NP Battery

Chen Gong's Skill 2 is a 10% teamwide NP battery. This can be utilized for a multi NP setup especially if you want to use Overcharge to increase his Noble Phantasm damage.

Specializes in Supporting Berserker Servants

Chen Gong's Skill 3 provides a Critical Strength Up and Max HP buff for a Berserker-class ally. This skill doubles their Critical damage and increases their Max HP by 3000. Although it only lasts for 1 turn, it makes him a powerful support for Berserkers.

Buster Effectiveness Buff Works Regardless of Class

In addition to the Class-specific buff in his Skill 3, there's also a 50% Buster Card Effectiveness buff for 1 turn. You can freely use this buff on any Servant since there's no Class required for it.

Offensive Buff Durations are Brief

As mentioned earlier, the buffs Chen Gong can give have a very limited duration of 1 turn. This makes his buffs better to use when doing one big Noble Phantasm damage since it also has very high multipliers.

Also Possesses Defensive Support Abilities

Chen Gong's Skill 1 and 2 give a Critical Rate Down debuff to all enemies and provide a teamwide Defense Up and Damage Cut buff. This makes him a decent defensive support for mitigating damage from enemy attacks.

Can Apply Target Focus (Taunt) on a Servant

Chen Gong's Skill 1 can apply a targetable Target Focus (Taunt) buff. You can use this to direct enemy attacks onto a dedicated tank or even himself to gain NP from being hit. If you use it on Chen Gong, make sure to also apply damage negation effects to him to ensure his survival.

Enables a Smooth Transition Into Solo Battle

Chen Gong's targeted Taunt can also be used to create a solo scenario for your main attacker. After applying buffs, you can use his Noble Phantasm to sacrifice your third Servant, then use his Taunt on himself. This will cause both Chen Gong and the sacrificed ally to be defeated, leaving your main attacker alone on the field.

Tip!	Certain Servants shine in solo battle situations like Heracles with his Bond Craft Essence as well as Enkidu.

	Arjuna (Alter) (★5) His 30% NP charge facilitates two consecutive NPs, which pairs perfectly with his Buster Star Concentration. As a Berserker eligible for Chen Gong's "Strategist's Wish A" buff, he can also aim for massive critical damage.
	Aesc the Savior (★5) Chen Gong's NP (which sacrifices an ally) can be used to trigger Aesc's Guts, boosting her HP-dependent ATK buff multiplier. Chen Gong’s Buster buff also efficiently increases Aesc's damage.
	Hijikata Toshizo (★5) His damage increases as his HP decreases, which synergizes perfectly with the sacrifice mechanic. Equipping a Guts Craft Essence allows him to reach peak damage regardless of enemy actions. He is also a target for "Strategist's Wish A," making him a strong partner even outside of sacrifice setups.
	Great Stone Statue God (★5) In addition to her AoE 20% NP charge and 3-turn ATK buff, her skill that grants party-wide Critical Star generation over time is highly effective. She continues to provide critical support even after being sacrificed.
	Spartacus (★1) Possesses up to a 30% NP charge, allowing for two consecutive NPs despite being a low-rarity Servant. When provided with a large supply of Critical Stars, he can also deal significant critical damage.
Compatible Supporters
	Altria Caster (★5) A premier support who can grant up to 50% NP charge, a high-multiplier Arts buff, NP Gain buffs, and ATK up. If you are running an Arts-based attacker, she is an essential support for both farming and high-difficulty content.
	Zhuge Liang (Lord El-Melloi II) (★5) With a total of 50% NP charge, and ATK buffs, he significantly increases Chen Gong's overall damage output.
	Lady Avalon (★5) She can support the party with a 20% NP charge, Arts buffs, and ATK buffs.
	Tamamo-no-Mae (Caster) (★5) By providing an Arts buff and NP Strength buffs, she increases Chen Gong's NP damage very efficiently. Note that she only provides NP charge through her own NP.
	Paracelsus von Hohenheim (★3) Because he efficiently boosts Arts effectiveness and NP Gain, it becomes much easier for Chen Gong to loop his NP. Note that he does not have an immediate NP charge skill.
	Cnoc na Riabh Yaraandoo (★4) Along with damage support from ATK and NP Strength buffs, her 30% NP charge facilitates ally NP activation. Because she applies Arts and Skill Seal demerits, you must be careful with skill order. Since Chen Gong has no Magic Resistance, the [Queen's Honey] buff remains stable.
	Prince of Lan Ling (★4) He can provide an Arts buff, up to 20% NP charge, and an ATK buff to the party.

Recommended Skill Leveling by Priority

Skill 1	Priority: ★☆☆ You can boost the crit rate down multiplier for all enemies. It improves survivability, but for farming purposes leaving it unleveled is generally fine.
Skill 2	Priority: ★☆☆ You can boost the multipliers of DEF Up + damage cut for all allies. It improves survivability, but for farming purposes leaving it unleveled is generally fine.
Skill 3	Priority: ★★★ You can boost the multipliers of single-target Buster Up buff + Max HP Up + Critical Strength up against Berserkers. It can't boost your own damage so leaving it unleveled is fine, but it's powerful as damage support for allies, so if leveled it can be useful depending on the team.
