Beginner's Guide

Part 1: Prologue (Fuyuki) - Goals

Fuyuki

Understand How Combat Works in FGO

FGO's combat is turn-based. Every battle starts with the player's preparation phase, where you can use Skills, designate a target enemy, and then choose Command Cards for attacking. In certain nodes, various buffs or debuffs can occur before the preparation phase, but you can bring CEs or Servants to counter any negative effects.

How Does Combat Work?

Find Powerful Support Servants

Find Powerful Support Servants

In FGO, you can borrow another player's Servant as a Support Servant for your team. You can borrow anyone's Servant from the Support list; sending a Friend Request or Following them will add their Servants to your Support list. Utilize either the Friend or Follow features to breeze through the story.

How to Use Followed Supports

The Follow feature allows you to use someone's Servants without needing them to accept your Friend Request but it will only be available before Part 2. Read more about the Follow feature in the button below:

Max Ascend a ★5 Servant Using Special Ascension

Special Ascension will also be unlocked after clearing Fuyuki chapter. It allows you to Max Ascend a Servant instantly without using any materials. It's recommended to use this on the ★5 Servant picked from the Special Summon.

Learn Class Affinity (Disadvantages and Advantages)

Class Affinity

Effective arrows mean that a Class has an Advantage against the targeted Class, while Resist arrows mean it has a Disadvantage.

Classes in FGO determine the multiplier for damage dealt and taken. Class Advantage means dealing more damage and taking less damage from the target Class while Disadvantage means dealing less damage and taking more damage from that Class.

How to Verify Enemy Classes

Enemy Classes

Enemy classes can be previewed in the Party Setup window before the battle starts. Since damage modifiers can greatly affect the battle outcome, make sure to bring Attackers who have a Class Advantage.

Party Setup Guide

Verify Classes Advantage and Disadvantages

Verify Enemy Classes

Your party's Servant class affinities are shown using orange and blue arrows, with orange indicating Class Advantage and blue indicating Disadvantage. Shorter arrows represent a 1.5x damage modifier, while longer arrows represent a 2.0x modifier.

Gather Friends

Add People

You can only use Follow Supports in the Main Story, so it's recommended to start adding friends to have a permanent roster of Support Servants for farming events and Daily Training quests. You can send a friend request after using their Support Servant or by searching for their UID in the Friends & Following menu.

Set Up Your Support Setup

Even if you are a beginner, fully filling out all slots in your Support Setup screen drastically increases the chances of other active players accepting your Friend Requests. You can access the Support Setup menu by tapping Menu > Formation > Support Setup.

Find Friends on Discord!

Do Events if You Can Participate

Do Limited Events

After clearing Fuyuki, you'll be able to participate in limited-time events. While some events require more story progress to participate, it's recommended to prioritize the ones you can access to obtain rewards.

Part 1 Chapter 3 - Goals

Okeanos

Start Strengthening Your Servants

Level Your Servants

While you can progress through the story by solely relying on Followed Support Servants, leveling your own roster will make battles easier to plan for. Start leveling and ascending your commonly used Servants with the goal of max-ascending them.

Servant Leveling Guide

Focus on a Few Servants First

Leveling up too many Servants early will rapidly exhaust your growth mats and QP. Focus strictly on leveling one high-rarity Servant first to establish a reliable foundation.

Learn How to Choose Command Cards

Command Card Choosing

The Command Cards you choose can affect a battle's outcome. Buster cards are good for dealing damage, Arts cards generate NP faster to use a Servant's Noble Phantasm, and Quick cards generate Critical Stars for Critical Attacks on the next turn.

Counter Quest Gimmicks and Mechanics

Boss Mechanic

▲Example of a boss buff that leads it to taking 0 damage.

High-difficulty fights will often have mechanics, such as enemy buffs and debuffs, that can easily lead to defeat. If a boss's special effect or high-damage Noble Phantasm leads to your defeat, tailor your team to counter it while also dealing damage to end the fight faster.

Core Gimmicks and Counter-Strategies

Part 1: Chapter 6 - Goals

Camelot

Enhance Your Servants Further

Skill Leveling

Combat difficulty spikes sharply starting from Chapter 6. To prepare for the last few chapters in Part 1 and Part 2, you should start leveling up your roster more. Transition beyond basic leveling into leveling up Skill Levels and unlocking Append Skills.

Servant Enhancement Elements and Priority

Obtain Servants via the Pilgrimage Festival

Pilgrimage Festival

Pilgrimage Festival is a feature that allows players to redeem past event-exclusive Welfare Servants using "Leaves of Evocation." Since you can accumulate a lot of Leaves from early milestone rewards and Daily Missions, choose a strong Servant to redeem and begin leveling them.

You can access the Exchange Shop by tapping Menu > Exchange Leaves of Evocation. It is found after the Rare Prism exchange option.

Required Amount of Leaves of Evocation

Enhancement StatusLeaves Required
Max Ascension + NP Lv 1400 Leaves
Max Ascension + NP Lv 51200 Leaves
Max Ascension + NP Lv 5 + Servant Coins for Append Skill 21800 Leaves
Max Ascension + NP Lv 5 + All Servant Coins3600 Leaves

Prioritize getting their Ascension material to max Ascend them first. If they're going to be used as a main Attacker, get their NP UP next to reach NP Lv 5 on them. Servant Coins used for Append Skills or Holy Grail casting can be redeemed later whenever you need them.
