Can You Create Your Own Character?
There is No Character Creation
Simply put, you cannot make your own character in Borderlands 3. You can only choose one out of the 4 Vault Hunters to play as in your playthrough.
Cannot Change Characters Mid-Game
Once you've selected which character to play as, you cannot change it anymore for that save. You'll need to start a new game to be able to play as another character.
Is There Character Customization?
Change the Way Your Character Looks
Players are free to customize the way their Vault Hunter looks by using Skins and Heads in the Quick Change machine. You can unlock these items by looting or getting them as rewards!

Head Customizations completely change the way the head of your character looks. This can include new hairstyles, facial markings, or more depending on its type. Each Vault Hunter will have numerous options for these.
Skin Customization
If you want to change the color scheme of your character, you'll have unlock Skin Customizations. This will overhaul their whole color scheme, including for their heads!
Customize Your Skills and Build
Although each character has their own set of skills, players are free to play around and create their own skill builds! It's entirely possible for two players to play as the same character, but with different skills and roles!
Choose from 3 Different Skill Trees
Characters each have 3 skill trees with a different focus. You can select skills from all tree to customize your character skills. You can also activate new Active Skills if you want!
Other Customizable Items
Vehicles
Similar to Borderlands 2, players can also change the way their vehicles look and fire in the game. You're free to do this at the Catch-a-Ride stations.
Paint Your Vehicles
Spice up your vehicles with different colors and designs. These customizations need to be unlocked first before you'll be able to apply them.
Change Your Weapons & Armor
You can choose from a selection of weapons and armor for your vehicle. This will affect how fast your vehicle is, it's toughness, weapons, and more!
Guns
Although you can't make your own gun in game, you can change how they look in game when you use Weapon Skins! Some of these are exclusive for different versions of the game and can only be unlocked by purchasing those.
