How To Parry

Hold The Knife As The Enemy Attacks

You can parry by holding the knife right before the incoming enemy's attack to defend yourself. Note that you can't parry if you hold the knife in your hand at all times.

There Are Two Types of Parry

Normally, Parry can frighten the enemy, but Leon will also be frightened and take time to hold his weapon. If you can parry at the best timing, you will be able to repel the enemy's attack and unleash a melee kick.

Throwing Attacks Can Also Be Parried

You can parry not only attacks from weapons held by enemies but also thrown weapons. You'll have enemies, mostly with Scythes, throwing weapons at you.

Sometimes the Button Will Appear In Center Screen

If attacked by a chainsaw or any other large weapon, a button may appear. It's easier to match the timing than normal weapons since it's bigger, it's also much heavier to wield so it takes a longer time to charge an attack. You can take advantage of this to dodge incoming attacks easily to reduce the risk of receiving damage.

Parry Tips

Check The Bottom Appearing In Right Bottom

Before Button AppearsWhen Button Appears

When Parry is available, a Parry Button will appear next to the Knife icon. When the button is present, you can position your knife at any time and you will be able to perform Parry.

Remember Enemy Attack Patterns

Each enemy has a different attacking action. You can't parry if the timing isn't right, so remember the attack patterns of each enemy and take note of their timing.

Consecutively Press The Position Button

In RE4, it's easier to parry if you repeatedly press the knife-holding button. If you are not good at matching the enemy's attack, try to parry with repeated hits.

Parry mechanic in the demo version. It may be different from the actual version.

Notes of Parrying Attacks

Decreases Knife Durability

The durability of the knife decreases with each parry. When the knife's durability reaches 0, it can no longer be held, Parry also becomes impossible at the same time. You can get it repaired by going to the Merchant.

How To Repair Knife & Increase Durability

Cannot Repair Knife In The Demo

The knife cannot be repaired since the Merchant does not appear in the demo. So be careful not to reduce the durability to zero when using it.

You Cannot Parry When An Enemy Grabs You

Some enemies will grab and attack with or without weapons. If you are unable to defend yourself, use other weapons, such as a handgun, to fight back.
