Dragonite & Zapdos ex Deck - Pros / Cons

  1. You are able to Knock-Out Multiple Targets at Once
  2. Able to Endure for long battle by Using Zapdos ex as a Wall
  3. Possibility of Not Drawing Stage 1 and 2 Pokemon Until Late Game

Able To Knock-Out Multiple Targets at Once

  1. Draco Meteor
  2. Use Draco Meteor

Dragonite's move deals a total of 200 damage to the entire opponent's field. Depending on your luck, it is possible to Knock Out multiple Pokemon at once allowing you to collect points.

Able to Endure Long Battles by Using Zapdos ex as a Wall

  1. Zapdos ex

Zapdos ex is a Pokemon with high HP and 1 Energy attack. If you use Zapdos ex as a wall, it will be easy to buy time until Dragonite is ready.

Possiblity of Not Drawing Stage 1 and 2 Pokemon Until Late Game

  1. Dratini
  2. Dragonair

Dragonite has 2 evolutions, so you need to draw Basic Pokemon and Stage 1 Pokemon before evolving. The weak point is that there is a chance Dratini will be Knocked Out before evolving to Dragonair or Dragonite.

Match Up against Meta Decks

The Dragonite deck takes time to prepare, but it is a deck that can win if you use Dragonite's moves two or three times.

Dragonite Deck has a particular advantage to Articuno ex since it has a small number of Pokemon, and main attackers like Weezing & Mewtwo ex that are slow to start and cannot Knock out Dragonite with one hit.

Bad Match Up Against Healing Decks

The deck has a tough matchup against Dragonite decks are decks that has plenty of healing like Venusaur ex, and decks that can one-hit KO Dragonite like Charizard ex. If you can't defeat opponents even after using Dragonite's moves two or three times, or if you Dragonite is defeated before that, it can be a tough match.

Dragonite & Zapdos ex Deck Strategy

  1. Buy Time with Zapdos ex In The Beginning
  2. Prepare Dragonite on the Bench
  3. Use Dragonite's Attack Repeatedly
Buy Time with Zapdos ex In The Beginning
  1. Zapdos ex

In the beginning, use two Zapdos ex to buy time. Take advantage of Zapdos ex's high HP and 1 Retreat Cost to endure and prepare Dragonite.

Prepare Dragonite on the Bench
  1. Dratini
  2. Dragonair

Once you draw Dratini, place it on the bench and aim to evolve to Dragonair, then to Dragonite. Dragonite requires 4 energy for the attack, so make sure to Attach Energy from Zone every turn.

Reduce Number of Pokemon to Prepare

This deck doesn't have Energy Acceleration cards, so attaching all energy to one Pokemon is recommended. If you have multiple Dratini, send one to the Active Spot and use it as a wall to buy time.

Use Dragonite's Attack Repeatedly
  1. Dragonite

When Dragonite is ready, put it on the Active Spot and Attack. The attack targets random Pokemon, but you can usually win if you can use it 2 or 3 times.

Keep Dragonite's HP High
  1. Potion

Once Dragonite is placed on Active Spot, Attack repeatedly. Use Potion to recover Dragonite's HP to endure attacks
