How To Defeat Village Chief Mendez (First Mutation)

Fight While Moving Left & Right On The 2nd Floor
During the first mutation, if you stay on the second floor, you can parry and evade almost all attacks from Village Chief Mendez. If you fight while moving left and right, you will be able to reduce the damage.
Parry & Evade When A Prompt Comes Up
The area where the boss fight happens is small and it's hard to run away after seeing its movement. However, most of its attacks will have an Evade prompt so try to avoid the attack at the right time.
Aim At The Eyeball On His Back After Avoiding A Swing Attack
The eyeball on his back is his weakness, but they are usually out of range since he will be facing you most of the time. After a swing attack, the eyeball is much easier to see and Mendez will stop for a moment. Make sure to aim quickly to get some shots in after you avoid the swing attack.
If He's Stunned, Get Close & Follow Up With Knife Attacks
If Mendez is stunned, you can attack his weak spot (eyeball on his back) with your knife. This can deal a lot of damage so make sure to approach him as soon as he's stunned.
Get Off The 2nd Floor For Attacks That Cannot Be Evaded Or Parried
When Mendez makes a slight pause, the following attack cannot be parried and will not have an evade prompt. Make sure to go down the second floor to avoid it.

| ③ | When he throws wooden planks, wait a bit after he raises it up. Avoid it by moving sideways. |

Fight Is Also On The 2nd Floor During The 2nd Phase
It is recommended to fight while moving sideways on the second floor, similar to how it was during the first phase of the battle. Moving sideways in a wider motion makes it easier to fight
Shoot The Red Barrels Before He Throws Them
When a red barrel is thrown, it burns the ground, making the area tighter and harder to move on. By shooting and destroying the red barrels before they are thrown, you can damage the boss. Make sure to destroy them whenever he holds them up.
Wait A Bit Before Avoiding The Wooden Planks
If an enemy is holding up wooden planks, wait for a moment and only move sideways once he has already thrown them. Check which side has more space and run to that side to safely dodge the attack.
When The Enemy Approaches, Keep Your Distance & Prioritize Evasion
When Mendez approaches you, keep your distance and move while prioritizing evading his attacks. Some attacks will have an Evade prompt, so watch carefully for the enemy's moves.
Sweep Attacks Can Be Avoided By Going Down The 2nd Floor
Like the first phase, the sweep attack can be avoiding by changing floors. When he starts his windup, go down the second floor.
How To Complete Slaughterhouse Slam Challenge
Perform A Knife Follow-Up From The Second Floor
This can be completed by doing a follow-up knife attack while Leon is on the second to a downed Mendez on the first floor. It is easier to achieve if Mendez us downed close to the second floor scaffold.
