Only one person can escape in a single Escape Pod. If another Raider gets there first, you'll have to wait for the next pod. If other Raiders are nearby, you can either defeat them and escape, or keep your distance and wait for the next opportunity.
An Escape Pod Also Appears When You Defeat a Boss

When you defeat a boss like a Dreamseeker, 1 to 2 Escape Pods will appear. It is recommended to use these to escape after defeating the boss.
Other Raiders May Enter During a Boss Fight
Other Raiders can also barge in during a boss fight. If only one pod appears after defeating the boss, you will need to defeat the other Raiders before you can escape. If you are confident in defeating the boss alone, dealing with the other Raiders first is a valid strategy.
