Preparation To Level Up Weapon In Zombies

1. Set Weapons in Insured Slots

Insured Slots

Place the weapon you want to level up in the Insured Slots. Note that if you die before escaping, you will not be able to use these weapons for 1 - 3 hours depending on the slot.

2. Set Energy Mine As Field Upgrade

Energy Mine

Select Energy Mine as your Field Upgrade. When you are in danger, it can eliminate zombies and earn you weapon XP.

3. Use Double Weapon XP Token

XP Tokens screen

XP tokens can be used to boost leveling for a limited time. In order to make use of the entire duration, we don't recommend using the Token before the match starts. Instead, use it after you arrived at the map and the match starts to avoid wasting the time it takes to get there from the lobby screen. If you're playing on PS, open the options menu and press L3 (press 3 on PC) to use it during the match.

Once You Are Prepared

When you have done all that, use one of the following methods to gain as much XP as possible.

Do The Extraction Mission

Use The Turrets In The Extraction Mission

If you progressed to the final mission in Act 1, you can use the turret in the final area to gain XP. You can repeat this mission as many times as you want, so you can go back to this mission at any time to do this.

Extraction Mission Walkthrough

Bring As Many Turret Circuits To The Final Area

You can bring Turret Circuits from the first map where you start or you can obtain them as guaranteed loot in the mission map. You want at least 6 or 7 in total.

Load The Turret Circuits

loading turret

You can activate the Turret right before Dr. Jansen exits the room downstairs to make the mission easier while getting XP. But once the helicopter arrives, there will be even more zombies that can give you XP and the Turret can take care of most of them without having to fight much.

Let The Turret Go To Work

Instead of boarding the helicopter, keep the Turret activated and it will continue to kill the zombies for you. Load the Turret again when it runs out of Circuits. Also be careful not to get overrun when the Turret stops. Each of them only lasts a couple minutes so be ready to load it again or Exfil.

Gain XP While AFK

staying prone on bridge

If you stay prone in a specific spot while the Turret is activated, you won't even have to move at all while the Turret takes care of the zombies. You just need to stay on the small set of stairs on the bridge. Go to the further side from the helicopter and stay prone right near the middle of the stairs.

Go To A Spore Control Contract

Step 1: Head For The Nearest Spore Contract

spore contract map

Accept a Spore Contract that is shown as an Egg shaped symbol on the map. Then head straight to the contract location. We recommend finding one in the Low Threat Zone since it will make it easier to gain XP.

Step 2: Pick Up And Place The Inhibitors

placing inhibitors

Pick up the Inhibitors and place them near the Spores, but do not destroy the Spores. By doing this, you can endlessly spawn zombies in the area. You can place all the Inhibitors to spawn more zombies, but you can just place 3 or 4 if you are playing solo and are worried about being overrun by too many zombies.

Step 3: Defeat The Zombies

defeating zombies

Defeat the Zombies as they will keep spawning as long as the Spores don't get destroyed. This will give you a good amount of XP. You can continue until you obtain enough XP and destroy the Spores once you're done. You can also cancel the contract any time you wish.

Use The Exfil Point

Step 1: Head For The Exfil Point

head for the exfil point

The helicopter exfil point will appear on the map when you have 43:45 left. You can use this method after you've done the Spore Contracts but you can also just go straight here. Choose the nearest location in the Low Threat Zone and head there.

Step 2: Call For The Helicopter

Call For The Helicopter

Call for the helicopter and take down the zombies as soon as they appear.

Step 3: Keep Calling The Helicopter

Keep Calling The Helicopter

Don't get on the helicopter and keep calling the helicopter (you can call it again in a minute) while killing zombies.

The number of zombies that appear increases over time, but their strength remains the same as long as you are at the same Exfil Point.

Step 4: Pick Up Bullets And Armor Plates

use energy mine to wipe them out

Zombies drop bullets and armor plates. Remember to pick them up while you do this to keep going. You can also use the Energy Mine to avoid being surrounded and it also counts toward your weapon XP.

But don't pick up the Nuke dropped by zombies. You won't get XP if you kill zombies with the Nuke.

Step 5: Board Helicopter When You're Done

Escape when you are done

Once you got enough XP, board the helicopter and make your escape. You can leave whenever you like, but keep an eye on the timer.

Be Aware Of XP Cap

Once you gain a certain amount of XP or enough time passes while you level up your weapon, the amount of XP you get by defeating zombies drastically decreases. We are yet to confirm exactly when this is triggered, but if you notice a huge drop in the XP you're getting, switch to a different method or Exfil and start again.
