Where To Find The M1897
Get It From The Village
You can find the M1897 during the very early parts of the game. You can find it inside a house while defending yourself from the first attack.
Buy From The Duke
If you missed the shotgun, you can buy it from the Duke once you meet him before entering Castle Dimitrescu. You can also choose to wait until you get back to the village to pick it up.

M1897 - Tips & How To Use
Good During The Early Parts
The M1897 Shotgun is pretty much your initial burst weapon. At the start, you can obliterate almost anything you point it at. However, the shotgun's upgrade limit and lack of attachments significantly reduce its usefulness after Castle Dimitrescu.
Do Not Invest On Upgrades
As stated above, the M1897 is not something you should count on for the whole duration of the game. It can easily be replaced by the better W870 TAC shotgun for free just after the second area, House Beneviento.
