Elden Ring Nightreign Game Progression

Things to Remember
The Play Area Shrinks Gradually

In this title, the map is surrounded by a phenomenon known as the "Night Rain". As the expedition progresses, the night rain will gradually encroach on the map and surround the party. Because entering the night rain causes continuous damage, use your map to navigate your party stay away from the night rain.
Revive Allies by Attacking Them

Whenever an ally is in near-death, a gauge will appear above them. By attacking your 'downed' ally, you can reduce the gauge to 0, which will result in rescuing the 'downed' ally.
Defeat the Final Boss on the 3rd Day

The overarching goal of every expedition is get stronger as your party progresses through days 1-3 by defeating a boss at the end of each day. On the 3rd day, the Night Lord final boss will appear, and defeating him will complete the expedition.
Select a Boss and Begin the Expedition

From the player hub, you can begin an expedition by interacting with the Roundtable
and selecting a boss. From here, you can also choose to start a multiplayer run and set a password.
Practice in the Training Grounds
Northeast of the Roundtable are the Training Grounds. Here, you can freely cast spells and practice different weapons against a dummy opponent.
Select a Playable Character

---|---|
![]() | - All-rounder - Balanced stat growth - Proficient with all melee weapons |

![]() | - Strength-focused character who attacks boldly with a Greataxe - Character Skill allows counterattacking while taking hits - Strengthens and prevents flinching when taking damage - Ultimate Art summons a giant tombstone - Area attack & ally buff, can also become a high platform |
![]() | - Activation effect when recovering from status ailments - Can parry enemy attacks with a Katana when using Character Skill - Allows for SEKIRO-like movements |
![]() | - Detailed information not yet released - Uses Faith-based weapons - Likely a character who fights mainly with Madness |
When you get to the character selection screen, you can choose one of the playable characters to use for the expedition. While it's possible to select the same character as your allies, we recommend building a balanced party.
Improve Your Character on Days 1-2

Defeat Enemies and Collect Runes to Lv. Up
Just like in the original Elden Ring, your party will need to defeat enemies to collect Runes which are needed to purchase character levels. Runes are evenly divided amongst your party and even a single character level can make a difference, so be sure to defeat as many enemies as you can during your expedition.
Collect Stonesword Keys and Enter Gaols
If you can acquire "Stonesword Keys" from Chests, you can enter one of the many Gaols scattered throughout the map. Be warned that these Gaols house powerful enemies that drop an abundance of Runes, so go after them if you're feeling confident!
Churches Enhance Sacred Flasks

A 'Sacred Flask' is a re-useable item that heals the player. Each flask only has a limited number of uses but can be enhanced to increase this number by visiting Churches within the play area. As these flasks are strongly considered to be each player's lifeline, we highly recommend visiting Churches during your expeditions.
Not that every player's Flask must be upgraded independently, meaning each player must visit the Church to upgrade their own respective Sacred Flask.
Acquire Better Items and Equipment

Weapons are primarily obtained from strong enemies and treasure chests in dungeons. Talismans are also found in chests, but are also dropped by scarabs. Lastly, there are towers known as Sorcerer's Rise scatted throughout the field that typically magic-oriented equipment, so remember to explore various places!
Random Attacks Can Occur

During expeditions, it's possible to get attacked by strong enemies. By defeating these enemies, you will acquire a buff which enhances every character in your party.
Bosses Spawn at the End of Each Day

A random boss will always spawn at the end of Days 1 and 2 while your selected boss will spawn at the end of Day 3. Cooperate with allies to defeat each boss boss and complete the expedition.
Bosses Disable Resurrection
Players that die during any of the Boss fights will be unable to resurrect until the battle concludes. Be sure to work with your allies and revive them while they're downed before they get locked out of the fight.
Defeat the Night Lord on the 3rd Day

The goal of every expedition is to defeat the Night Lord on the 3rd day. Note that you will not be able to explore the field on the 3rd day, so make all of the necessary preparations beforehand.
Final Preparations
Although you are unable to explore the fields on the 3rd day, there is a Site of Grace, Shop, and Smithing Table inside the Sacred Tree. This allows players to utilize any excess resources they were able to gather before the 3rd day.
Return to Roundtable Upon Completion/Defeat

Clearing an expedition by defeating the Night Lord, or suffering a total defeat will return all participating players to the Roundtable Hold. All players will also receive a number of Relics and Marks based on how far they were able to progress, with the most luxurious rewards locked behind defeating the Night Lord. So always try your best to complete each expedition!
Equip Relics at the Roundtable

Near the Roundtable will be an altar-like area with flickering blue flames. From here, players can equip each character with acquired Relics.
Purchase Cosmetics with Marks

While unconfirmed via the Network Test, we believe Marks will be the resource used to purchase various character skins and gestures during Nightreign's full release.
Meta Progress from Repetition

Similar to most Roguelikes, Nightreign's meta progression
is mainly achieved via repetition. By playing through more and more expeditions, players can continue to acquire better Relics for their characters, which will help them get further in future expeditions.

Roguelike Gameplay

The objective is to survive for 3 days while playing as 1 of 8 unique playable characters. Once the game begins, you can freely explore the play area to strengthen your character for the final boss fight.
Map Changes Every Game

The Nightreign play area is randomly generated every time you begin an expedition. The vast field is comprised of strategic elements like mini-dungeons, bases, and enemies that drop runes or chests that contain weapons and talismans.
Enhance Your Character

In Night Rain, obtaining equipment such as "weapons" and "talismans" is key to progressing. You can equip three weapons on each of the left and right hands, and all additional effects attached to the weapons are fully applied. There are various other enhancement elements, but by simply replaying, you can obtain "relics" that make your character stronger, adding a roguelike element where the more you play, the stronger you become.
