Runes can be used to level up characters and purchase items in Elden Ring Nightreign. This guide covers efficient rune farming methods, and usage strategies.

How to Farm Runes

Obtained by Defeating Enemies

In Elden Ring Nightreign, you can get Runes by defeating enemies. Additionally, on top of Runes, the enemy has a chance to drop items or weapons.

Runes are Obtained by All Co-Op Players

Runes obtained from defeating enemies are acquired by all players participating in the co-op session. Players can get runes no matter how far apart they are from each other.

Defeat Great Enemies to Get More Runes

Defeating Great Enemies found throughout the field grants a large amount of Runes. Named Great Enemies may also drop powerful weapons or Dormant Power, making them well worth the challenge.

Gain More Runes with Dormant Power, Relics, etc.

Certain Dormant Powers, Relics, and items enhance Rune acquisition, which makes farming more efficient. Some Relics even increase Rune earnings not just for you, but for your allies as well.

What are Runes Used For?

Level Up Your Character

Runes are essential for leveling up your character, which you can do at a Site of Grace found in the field. However, once the Night's Tide shifts into its final phase and you enter the boss area, you won't be able to access the Site of Grace anymore, meaning healing and leveling up will no longer be possible. Make sure you prepare ahead of time!

Purchase Items From Merchants

It is also possible to use Runes as a currency to purchase items and weapons. Purchases can be made from Merchants found on the field.

You can check merchant locations by opening the map and pressing the △ button to view details. Then, head to the location marked by the icon in the image above.

Precautions When Farming Runes

You Will Drop Runes Upon Death

Any Runes you were carrying at the time of death will be dropped right where you fell. You can reclaim them by returning to the spot or defeating the enemy that stole them, but be careful since each death reduces your player level by 1.

Runes Disappear If You Die Again

If you die before recovering your dropped Runes, they will be permanently lost. The location of your Runes is marked on the map, so after dying once, avoid unnecessary combat and prioritize retrieving them.
