  4. Commence solo.

To play Nightreign solo, first switch your controlled character to the one you want to commence with. After that, select a target at the Roundtable Hold, choose single player as the commence method, and commence solo to play by yourself.

Switch to the Character You Want to Play With

Commence Expedition

In solo play, there is no character selection screen before you commence, so the character you were controlling at the Roundtable Hold will be the character you start with. You can change your controlled character by pressing the △ button in front of a character at the Roundtable Hold, so switch to the character you want to commence with.

Differences From Multiplayer

Enemy Stats Adjusted

Enemy stats differ between solo and multiplayer modes, with enemies being weaker in solo play. However, the game itself is balanced for 3-player multiplayer, so even if enemies are weaker, solo progression remains difficult.

Multiplayer Guide & How to Play Co-Op

No Change in Boss Attack Patterns

Although stats are adjusted, there is no change in boss attack patterns. Therefore, for example, with Gladius, you'll have to face 3 entities by yourself after it splits, meaning even enemies that are easier to fight in multiplayer become significantly more difficult.

Collecting Runes and Equipment

Item acquistion is up to you

In solo play, you need to collect all Runes and equipment yourself. Unlike multiplayer, you can't divide the labor of farming Runes with allies or have equipment and items shared with you, so a more efficiency-conscious playstyle is required.

How to Farm Runes Fast

Easier to Obtain Self-Revive items

Elden Ring Nightreign - Wending Grace

In solo expeditions, since there's no reviving from allies, it's easier to obtain items that allow for self-reviving. Even in boss battles, it's not over if you die once; by using items, you can challenge them multiple times, making solo progression possible.

Should You Play Solo or Multiplayer?

Multiplayer Recommended

Nightreign has a game balance designed around 3-player multiplayer, and it's overwhelmingly easier to progress through the game in multiplayer. But it doesn't become instantly easy with 3 players; a solid challenge remains, so multiplayer is recommended for those focused on clearing the game.

Solo For Experienced Players

For veteran Souls players, taking on the challenge solo for the sense of accomplishment can be one way to enjoy the game. Enemy stats are adjusted for solo play, so it's not designed to be absolutely unbeatable just because you're playing alone.

Best Characters for Solo Expeditions

CharacterDetails
Wylder IconWylder・Well-balanced stats
・Both Character Skill and Ultimate Art are easy to use and excellent
・No particular weaknesses
Raider IconRaider・Overpower enemies with Strength and Poise greater than Wylder's
・Can reduce damage taken while attacking with a counter Character Skill
・Ultimate Art is somewhat difficult to use
Executor IconExecutor・Can maneuver while negating attacks with the Suncatcher Skill
└Since you're alone, attacks are only directed at you, making it easier to aim
・Requires technique, so it's for advanced players
Revenant IconRevenant・Can distribute aggro even in solo play by using Summon Spirit
・Low durability, so a playstyle that avoids taking damage is important

For solo play, it's recommended to use classes with melee and high durability like Wylder and Raider, Executor who can use Suncatcher to negate attacks and Revenant who can fight with multiple entities even solo using Summon Spirit.
