Can Upgrade Weapons to Legendary

Can Upgrade Weapons to Legendary

In Elden Ring Nightreign, after defeating the final boss of The Crater, Magma Wyrm, each player is granted a one-time opportunity to upgrade a single weapon, regardless of its rarity, into a Legendary weapon. Upgrading to a Legendary weapon significantly boosts its attack power, so it is wise to choose an Affinity weapon that is effective against Nightlords or simply your weapon of choice.

Passive Effects Are Not Enhanced

Even if you upgrade to a Legendary weapon, Passive Effects do not change. Effect multipliers and such remain as they were when obtained, so be aware that Passive Effects cannot be enhanced.

The Crater Location and Appearance

Enter the Crater From the Lower Left Area

Elden Ring Nightreign The Crater Entrance Image

When The Crater is active due to Shifting Earth, it appears on the north side of the map. You can enter from the lower left of The Crater area, so aim for the area between the Spiritstream and Church map icons.

Triggered by Events Like Defeating Nightlord

The Crater is triggered by events such as defeating a Nightlord. Even if you commence multiple times, Shifting Earth will not occur if you are defeated, so if you want to trigger Shifting Earth, challenge a Nightlord you are confident you can defeat.

Guaranteed to Occur When The Crater is Unlocked

Clearing Tricephalos unlocks and activates The Crater immediately. Currently, this is the only time you can trigger a specific Shifting Earth event, so don't miss the unlock timing and be sure to clear it.

The Crater Walkthrough Guide

  2. Enter in the Lower Left of The Crater Area
  3. Enter the hole to reach the Site of Grace
  4. Defeat the Fire Prelates

Level Up and Challenge on the 2nd Day

Recommended LevelLvl. 9 or higher

Multiple Great Enemies appear in The Crater, and the final boss, "Magma Wyrm," is a dangerous enemy with high HP and attack power. It's dangerous to challenge it on the 1st day with a low level and insufficient weapons, so level up to around Level 9 and challenge it on the 2nd day.

Multiple great enemies appear in the Crater, the final boss, Magma Wyrm, is a dangerous foe with high HP and attack power. It's risky to challenge it on the first day with a low level and insufficient weapons, so level up to around Level 9 and face it on the second day.

Enter in the Lower Left of The Crater Area

The Crater Entrance Image

There is an entrance around the lower left of The Crater area. You can enter by going down the pillar near the Spectral Hawk Tree, so aim for the Spectral Hawk Tree icon in the lower left of The Crater on the map.

Location of The Crater Entrance

Enter from the Lower Left of The Crater Area

Enter the Hole to Reach the Site of Grace

Go down the pillar and proceed straight, and you'll find a hole. Descend from there and touch the Site of Grace in front of you. After that, follow the path on the opposite side of the direction where you see magma.

Defeat the Fire Prelates

The Crater Prelates

Follow the path and you'll find the boss "Fire Prelates," so defeat them. Until you defeat the boss, the path is blocked by a yellow fog, so you cannot proceed further.

Proceed While Defeating the Flame Chariots

The Crater Flame Chariots

Once the yellow fog clears, proceed forward. There are 4 Flame Chariots, but you can defeat them in one hit by climbing on them from behind and performing a Critical Hit, so defeat them to also farm Runes.

Pass Through the Flaming Hand Enemies

Proceed through the area where many Flaming Hand enemies appear. The giant hands will flinch if attacked with Fire Affinity. If you don't have Fire Affinity, they can be troublesome, so skipping them is also an option. Make your way down the platforms to find the boss, Magma Wyrm.

Defeat Magma Wyrm

The Crater Defeat Magma Wyrm

At the deepest part of the Crater is the boss Magma Wyrm, so defeat it. It has high HP and powerful attacks, but defeating Magma Wyrm clears the Crater, so feel free to use your Ultimate Arts and Sacred Flasks without holding back.

Upgrade a Weapon to Legendary

The Crater Upgrade Weapon

After defeating Magma Wyrm, you can examine the pedestal at the back of the boss area. Each player can upgrade only one weapon to Legendary here, so choose an Affinity weapon effective against the Nightlord or simply upgrade your favorite weapon.

Use the Spectral Hawk Tree to Leave

The Crater Spectral Hawk Tree

After upgrading your weapon, use the nearby Spectral Hawk Tree to leave the Crater. The Spectral Hawk will carry you to the final cycle of the second day, so it's okay to escape at the last minute.

Should You Go to The Crater?

Go on Day 2 If You're Strong Enough

The Crater Great Enemy Felled

In The Crater, not only can you upgrade weapons to Legendary, but multiple Formidable Great Enemies also appear. You can level up, gather Dormant Power, and ultimately upgrade your weapons, so if you are level 9 or higher at the start of the 2nd day, challenge it to further strengthen your character.

Skip if Day 1 Went Poorly

If your progress on the 1st day didn't go well and your level is insufficient, give up on The Crater. Forcing yourself to challenge it will waste time, and you might not be able to defeat Magma Wyrm, potentially leaving you underpowered for the 2nd day's boss battle.

How to Close / Erase The Crater

Use Bed to Skip Time

The Crater Bed

Nightreign's The Crater can be made to disappear by passing time in the bed in the Waiting Room. The Waiting Room is located to the lower right of Roundtable Hold, and you can also open the map to warp there.
