What Are the Death Penalties in Nightreign?
Near Death and Death Penalties

Near Death State |
---|
♦︎ When HP goes to 0, players will enter a Near Deathstate where a Near Death Gauge appears and they require a Rescueto continue fighting. - Players can Rescue allies who are Near Death by attacking them to reduce the Near Death Gauge to 0 - The Near Death Gauge gets longer each time a player dies - The expedition will result in a Defeat if all players enter the Near Death state at night ♦︎ Death occurs when players remain in the Near Death State for a prolonged time during the day. ♦︎ Reduced movement speed |
Death Penalties |
♦︎ Character level drops by 1 ♦︎ Some Runes are dropped at the location of Death and may be stolen by enemies ♦︎ The amount of dropped Runes will depend on your character's level before death |
There are two types of death penalties when playing Elden Ring Nightreign because there are two states of death
in the game. The first is the Near Death state, which is more commonly referred to as the downed state
in other games. Whereas the second time is true death, where players are shown the Defeat screen.
No Death at Night
During the Night, players no longer die by staying in a prolonged Near Death state. However, if all participating players enter the Near Death state, the expedition will result in a defeat, and all players will return to the Roundtable Hold.
Pre-emptively Replenish Sacred Flasks
The Night's Tide
will eventually lock players out of using Sights of Grace. Make sure to heal your HP and replenish your Sacred Flask before this happens.
How to Recover Lost Levels and Runes?
Recover Runes at Your Deathbed
Dropped Runes can be recovered by returning to the place where you last died. Note that dying before recovering your dropped Runes will result in creating a new pile of Runes and causing the former to disappear.
Can't Lose More Than 2 Levels
Dying results in losing 1 level, but dying consecutively will not result in losing more than 2 levels from your original level.
Defeat the Thief
In times when your dropped Runes are stolen, locate the enemy and defeat them to recover your stolen Runes.
