Camera is a rune ability in Zelda Breath of the Wild (BotW). Learn how to use the Camera and how to register photos in the Hyrule Compendium including tips on how to take pictures.

How To Use Camera

Camera
EffectTake pictures of scenery and yourself.
Monsters and materials photographed can be registered in the Hyrule Compendium.
※The entries in the Hyrule Compendium can be trancked with Sheikah Sensor +.
How To UsePress L → A button to take a picture.
Move with L stick
Zoom with the cross key (▲▼)
Rotate camera with R stick.
Press X to switch to capture yourself/view
Press - button to switch to the album.
Press B to quit.
How To Get It Clear Main Quest Locked Mementos

Fit The Object On the Screen To Shoot It

Put the object in Camera and press A button.

To take a picture, you only have to activate the Camera and press A button. If the object does not fit well on the screen, adjust the position by zooming or moving.

You Can Take Selfies With The X Button

Pressing the X button can switches to the selfie screen. Not only Link himself, you can also take pictures of the weapons he is equipped with.

Pose With The L-stick Up, Down, Left, Or Right

While taking a selfie, the L-stick can be used to select a pose. There's a total of 8 different poses are possible, including combinations with the ZL button.

Check The Album To See What You Took

Check the album

You can check the pictures you took by pressing the - button after activated the Camera. You can also check them by pressing the R button from the map screen.

How To Register In The Hyrule Compendium

Take A Picture With Camera → Save To Register

Take a picture with the camera and save it to register in the Hyrule Compendium. Please note that if you delete the image, it will not be registered.

Can Be Replaced

If you take a picture of a registered object again, you can replace it with the previous one. If you prefer the new one, select "Replace" on the screen.

Can Be Found In The Upgraded Sheikah Sensor

The items registered in the Hyrule Compendium can be tracked with the upgraded Sheikah Sensor. You should actively register them in the Compendium so that you can immediately search for them whenever you run out of materials or other items.

You can register entries in Hyrule Compendium at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab without having to take the picture yourself. The first time is free, and after the second time, you have to pay Rupees to register. Materials require 100 Rupees, and after completing the game, you can also register strong enemies for 500 Rupees.

Added Randomly In The Hyrule Compendium

You can choose the classification of Creatures and Monsters when you pay, but what will be added is random.

Therefore, it is basically better to fill in the ones that are easy to photograph by yourself.
