How To Shield Surf
ZL+A While Jumping With Shield Equipped
You can perform Shield Surf by pressing the ZL and A buttons simultaneously while jumping or in the air. You only need to have the ZL and A buttons pressed while in the air, so you can hold the Shield with ZL and then jump and press the A button.

Shield Surf - Conditions & Situations
Use It In The Desert & In The Snow
Shield Surfing drains Shield durability when done on grasslands and rocks, but this does not happen when it is used in the desert or on snow. Since moving over deserts and snow is slower without Sand/Snow Boots, Shield Surfing will allow you to move quickly in this area.
You Need An Incline To Move
To accelerate while Shield Surfing, you need to be on a downhill slope, even if it's just a small one. You will not to be able to move forward on a completely flat or uphill slope, so find a slight incline in the desert or on snow to gain speed while moving forward.

At Selmie's Spot in the Hebra Mountains, you can play the Shield Surf mini-game. There is a beginner course and an advanced course. You will be able to challenge the advance course by completing the beginner course. At the advanced level, in addition to Rupees, you will also receive Shield for the first time, depending on your time.
