Gyarados ex Deck - Pros / Cons

  1. Powerful 4-cost Attack
  2. Accelerate Energy with Misty
  3. Slow Attacker

Powerful 4-cost Attack

  1. Pokemon TCG Pocket - Rampaging Whirlpool
  2. Pokemon TCG Pocket - Rampaging Whirlpool Damage

Gyarados ex is a strong card that can potentially deal 140 damage repeatedly. This attack can OHKO both Mew ex and Celebi ex, which often allows you to pivot the match in your favor.

Druddigon and Greninja

You need to bring down the opponent's HP to 140 or lower by the time Gyarados ex is ready to attack. Use Druddigon and Greninja to lower their HP before you can use Gyarados ex.

Accelerate Energy with Misty

  1. Pokemon TCG Pocket - Misty

A big appeal of the Gyarados deck is that it can make use of the Misty support card. Since a major weakness of the deck is collecting enough energy, Misty can offset this weakness by relying in player luck.

Slow Attacker

Gyarados ex requires an expensive 4 Energy to use its only attack, so it can rarely be used as an opening Pokemon. It is especially dangerous while you have Magikarp on the field, so you need to make sure you don't get a 1 Hit KO before you're prepared.

Gyarados ex Deck Strategy

  1. Use Druddigon As A Wall In The Early Game
  2. Use Misty For a Quick & Powerful Attack
  3. Switch to Gyarados ex when Ready
Use Druddigon as a wall in the early game
  1. Druddigon
  2. Magikarp (Mythical Island)

In the early game, use Druddigon as a wall to endure attacks while chipping away at the opponent. If you start with Magikarp, use Leap Out to switch with a Bench Pokemon.

Use Misty For a Quick & Powerful Attack
  1. Misty
  2. Gyarados ex

If you can successfully use Energy Acceleration via Misty, you’ll be able to unleash Gyarados ex’s Attacks from an early turn. If Misty is in your opening hand, aim to launch an aggressive offense with Gyarados ex.

Switch to Gyarados ex when Ready
  1. Gyarados ex
  2. Druddigon
  3. Greninja

Once Gyarados ex has 4 Energy attached, use Leaf to switch it into the Active Spot. Gyarados ex’s Attack deals 140 damage, so it’s ideal to pre-damage opponents with HP over 150 using Druddigon or Greninja.
