Gyarados ex Pros and Cons

Top-Tier Attack among Stage 1 Pokemon

Gyarados ex's Attack deals 140 damage with 4 Energy. The effect of discarding a random Energy is both a benefit and a drawback, so it's not too concerning.

Very High HP

A notable point about Gyarados ex is its HP of 180. At the time of release, the only Pokemon that could reliably knock out Gyarados in one hit is Charizard ex, giving it exceptional durability for a Stage 1 Pokemon.

Great Synergy with Misty

By flipping coins until tails appear, you can attach Water Energy equal to the number of heads with Misty, which accelerates Energy Acceleration, allowing you to quickly increase your firepower.

Weak Magikarp Before Evolving

This isn't a weakness of Gyarados ex itself, but the low HP of the pre-evolution Magikarp is a downside. If your opponent has a Pokemon that can attack the Bench, you may need to use strategies like placing two Magikarp at once.
