Volcarona Deck - Pros / Cons

  1. 80 damage Bench Attack is Powerful
  2. Difficult to Manage Energy
  3. Important to Use The Two Attackers Properly

Volcarona Isn't Strong by Itself

Volcarona's ability won't help that much if you treat it as the main card of your deck. It is better to include it in decks to support other cards such as the Arcanine ex deck.

Arcanine ex Deck Guide

80 damage Bench Attack is Powerful

Volcarona

Volcarona is a particularly powerful card that allows you to Bench Attack and deal 80 damage. The effect of discarding energy is costly, so it's difficult to attack repeatedly, but you can hit the opponent's Pokemon before Evolve is ready or the attacker is being trained first.

Difficult to Manage Energy

  1. very difficult to attach energy
  2. very difficult to attach energy

The biggest problem with the Volcarona deck is that you can very easily run out of Energy. In addition to Attach Energy from Zone each turn, the Energy Acceleration from Moltres ex and how you use it can directly affect the result of the battle, so the skill required for this deck is quite high.

Leaf is Especially Important

This is a deck that wants to avoid consuming Energy for retreat as much as possible, so the value of Leaf is very high. It is a Supporter card which can only be used once per turn, and you'll also need X Speed during the battle. You need to determine which card needs to be used.

Important to Use Two Attackers Properly

  1. Arcanine ex
  2. Volcarona

In this deck, depending on the opponent's deck type, the attacker you should prepare changes between Arcanine ex, Volcarona or both. The cards and game plan will change depending on which cards you draw, but it's a fun deck that allows you to flexibly think about how to get 3 points.

Volcarona Deck Strategy

  1. Energy Acceleration Using Inferno Dance
  2. Deal 80 Damage With Volcarona
  3. Score Points With Arcanine ex
Energy Acceleration Using Inferno Dance
  1. Moltres ex

The opening strategy for this deck is to use Moltres ex for Energy Acceleration. Depending on your opponent’s deck, using "Fiery Dance" 2–3 times to get a total of 4 Energy should be considered a passing benchmark for this deck.

Don't Get Moltres ex Knocked Out

If Moltres ex is knocked out during the Energy Acceleration phase, the opponent gains 2 points, making the midgame significantly more challenging. Unless you can clearly see that your other attackers can continue to attack, prioritize keeping Moltres ex safe.

Deal 80 Damage With Volcarona
  1. Volcarona

It is very effective if you can get Volcarona to attack first. Use it to knock out weaker Pokemon for an early point or damage stronger attackers on the opponent’s Bench so that Arcanine ex can One Hit KO them.

Ideal if you can attack repeatedly or have Leaf for backup

Volcarona discards 2 Energy when it attacks. If used at a bad time, it can get stuck in the Active Spot, unable to act the next turn. This can lead to a devastating loss. Plan your next turn carefully when using it. It’s best to use Volcarona when you can attack repeatedly or have Leaf ready to retreat it and switch to another attacker.

Score Points With Arcanine ex
  1. Arcanine ex

From the midgame onward, focus on scoring points with Arcanine ex. In this deck, Arcanine ex can often secure a point with just 1–2 attacks. When facing two high-HP Pokemon ex cards, the number of attacks needed from Volcarona increases by one, so make sure to prepare it in the bench.
