Arcanine ex Deck - Pros / Cons

  1. Powerful Attack from Arcanine ex
  2. Energy Acceleration with Moltres ex
  3. Self-Damage Drawback

Powerful Attack from Arcanine ex

  1. Arcanine ex Inferno Rush
  2. Using Inferno Onrush

The Arcanine ex attack is extremely powerful, able to One-Hit KO most Basic and Stage 1 Pokemon. Against high-HP opponents like Pokemon ex, consider increasing damage with Giovanni or using Heatmor to chip away opponent HP before attacking.

Energy Acceleration with Moltres ex

  1. Moltres ex
  2. Using Inferno Dance

The attack "Inferno Dance" from Moltres ex enables Energy Acceleration, making it faster to power up Arcanine ex. Although the attack relies on a coin flip, even adding a single Energy can greatly speed up activation.

Self-Damage Drawback

Each time Arcanine ex uses its attack, it loses 20 HP. Take care of counterplay from the opponent and recover lost HP with Potion to mitigate this drawback.

Arcanine ex Deck Strategy

  1. Survive the Early Game with Moltres
  2. Chip with Heatmor, Finish with Arcanine
  3. Protecting Heatmor is Crucial
Survive the Early Game with Moltres
  1. Moltres ex
  2. Growlithe

The ideal early setup is to attach Fire Energy to Growlithe with Moltres ex. Unlike Charizard ex, it doesn’t consume Energy, so attaching just one Energy per turn to Growlithe is sufficient. Once you have 2 Fire Energy on Growlithe, evolve it to Arcanine.

Consider a Quick Attack Based on Opponent

If the opponent primarily uses Grass or Metal types, a fast attack with Heatmor is effective. Assess your opponent's Energy cards to decide which Pokemon to start with in the Active Spot.

Chip with Heatmor, Finish with Arcanine
  1. Heatmor
  2. Arcanine ex

Since few Pokemon ex can be One-Hit KO'd by Arcanine ex’s Attack, you’ll often need to reduce the opponent’s HP first. The typical approach in this deck is to chip with Heatmor before switching in Arcanine for the KO.

Protecting Heatmor is Crucial
  1. Heatmor
  2. Potion

As Arcanine ex damages itself with its Attack, your first one may be taken out during the game. To avoid defeat, it’s crucial that Heatmor, the chipper, isn’t Knocked Out. Be mindful of Potion use to keep Heatmor's HP up as needed.
