After Alterna is a secret level in Splatoon 3 (Spla 3). This guide includes how to unlock, locations of checkpoints, walkthroughs of all stages, and the rewards.
After Alterna - How To Unlock & Location
Appears When All Stages Are Done
After clearing all Hero Mode Stages (65 types), a hidden stage appears. It is unnecessary to try & clear all weapons and it is okay to clear each stage at least once.
Can Get Rewards By Clearing
When you clear the hidden stage, you can get the Teddy Band gear and the titles Alternan & World Champ.
Secret Level Location
Go back to Camp Cuttle that can be found on Site 1 and look for the hidden stage.
Max Upgrade Your Equipment
After Alterna is difficult which is incomparable to prior stages.Upgrade your equipments to the maximum before taking on it. If you don't have enough materials to upgrade, it is recommended to prioritize equipment other than Smallfry or Bomb-type. However, it'd be better to conserve them for more options in the final part, so collect materials if possible.

Need to Start Over When Leaving Midway
After Alterna is a very challenging stage that is long and may take time to finish, including retries. There is a total of four checkpoints but once you get out of the stage , you are going to start from the beginning so try it when you have the time.

Take out the enemies from the right first. Use smallfry or hit & hide because you can take a lot of damage when you move away from the purple blocker.
Get the proper timing for the angle of the platform before jumping since you can slip & fall off the platform.
Two enemies are going to attack from the steady platform at the end of the rotating platform. Avoid the attacks by using blockades as shields. Keep moving forward then shoot the enemies when they are in range.
When you get on the accelerator, you are going to be redirected to a platform where 3 enemies await. There is one on the right and two on the left. Get off to the right and defeat one then defeat the remaining two from the back.
Position Of The Enemies
Two enemies are going to throw a bomb. Shoot the balloon to defeat the enemies then quickly move back to avoid the bombs.
There are gaps between the inks. Use squid surge as you climb and be nimble since there are brushes that can knock you off the wall.
Return To Human Form After Passing Through The Wire Mesh
As you pass through the wire mesh, you need to pass thru a wire mesh. However, you cannot stand on it while in squid form so be sure to return to the human form after passing thru the mesh.
From the wire mesh, 2 enemies are on the wall. Proceed and prepare to shoot while jumping to reach them.
Head to the rotating pillar while avoiding snipers. Since there is a wooden box that can be used a shield, do not break it and use it to your advantage.
Apply ink to the rotating pillar then jump on it and hide. For safety, apply ink on all 4 sides before jumping. If you move closer to the right, you can avoid the enemy attacks.
It is easy to defeat enemy on the right with smallfry because it is difficult to shoot.
Pressing the "B" button and the moving stick at the samte time while hidding in the wall to defeat the enemies, which enables you to jump to that direction with squid roll.
When you apply ink to the lower part of the scaffold and jump, it starts to move forward. Be careful not to fall until it stops. To increase the space where you can move, apply ink to cover all of the surfaces.
Descend Behind The Enemies
Descend ang get behind the enemies to defeat them quickly. The enemy on the right has a shield so take it down immediately. You can also throw smallfry for convenience.
From the second moving wall, you need to switch to another one that is already painted. Move quickly when the walls are lined up.
Squid Rings As Guide
After the transfer, the wall is going to move again. You need to jump off so use the squid rings as guide.
As you proceed to a slighly open surface, bomb-shaped enemies are going to appear and rush towards you. The special weapon should be available to use, so use it to wipe out all of them with the Splashdown.
You need to avoid enemy attacks as you progress on the ink rail. Be careful of the camera adjustment whenever you jump. You can adjust it according to your preference so you do not fall.
Since the rotation speed of the platform is fast, it is good to challenge with the attitude to move quickly. First, apply ink to the first one in advance and apply ink to the second while jumping then immediately jump to the power eggs.
Finally, aim for Launchpad by getting past the moving pillars. The pillars are moving in cycle so apply ink to all the pillars before you jump. It is good if you apply the upper & front surface. There is no time limit so it is recommended to apply as much as possible.

Second Checkpoint Video Guide
Second Checkpoint Walkthrough Chart
- Shoot the 3 targets
- Keep shooting the targets
- Targets & rail transfer
- Spiral targets
- Shoot & jump on the rails
- Jump & shoot as you fall
Hop on the ink rail and be careful when switching on another ink rail.
The targets appear in 3s and they are going to appear continuously. The second appearance is up & down and the third appearance is across the rails which could be difficult to follow during the first try. Please use the guide video above to be prepeared.
While on the rail, there is no time to waste. You must be nimble enough to switch between the rails while simultaneously shooting the targets. You can keep shooting by holding down the "ZR" button.
Replenish Ink After Shooting The Last Target
The succeeding target breaks when shooting constantly so as soon as you break the last target, dive to replenish & restore ink.
The targets appear in the middle of a spiraling rail so aim & shoot to the center. After that, shoot the leftover targets to clear.
Shoot the targets that appear then jump on the next rail. If you jump while shooting ink before, you can split one or two targets at the same time as they appear, which gives you an advantage.
It is necessary to destroy 9 targets as you fall. Start launching ink in front of you as soon as you jump off. It is recommended to destroy as many targets as possible by the moment take the jump then clear the remaining targets one by one.

Third Checkpoint Video Guide
Third Checkpoint Walkthrough Chart
- Throw smallfy to the soaker block
- Utilize smallfry as you proceed
- Throw smallfry to the soaker block across the glass
- Return If Needed When Dealing With Enemies
- Jump with squid surge
- Throw smallfry to the balloons
- Jump towards the squid ring
The soaker block is hindered by the enemy attack. Throw smallfry to the soaker block and deal with the enemy.
If there is an enemy with a shield, throw smallfry and deal with the enemy. After that, return to the prior position then throw smallfry to the soaker block at the back and apply ink to the soaker block on the right. Continue moving forward when the path has been made.
You cannot pass by the glass. Throw smallfry to the soaker block across it and wait for the the path to disappear and be redirected to another path below.
You need to make a path by using the soaker blocks. Throw smallfry to the soaker block to create a path but be careful as there are multiple enemies that are going to appear. Take your time to deal with them and return to the platform if the soaker block has been compromised.
The soaker block is going to expand sideways so climb with squid surge to get on the platform.
Throw smallfry to one of the balloons on the upper left that is hanging from wire mesh. A chain explosion is going to happen and the soaker block is going to produce a path.
Proceed While Ignoring The Enemies
Since the soaker block retracts after a period, you cannot take all enemies as you need to hurry up. You can ignore the enemies and proceed ahead. A bomb-shaped enemy is going to approach you from the front so focus to defeat the enemy.
Hit the balloon and climb the pillar that the soaker block produced. After reaching the top, jump towards the squid ring to the third checkpoint.

Fourth Checkpoint Video Guide

- Prevent missiles with soaker block
- Ride a missile using 2 soaker blocks
- Destroy & repaint the sprinkler
- Do not go all the way after destroying the 2nd sprinkler
- Throw smallfry to the left then revert the one on the right
- Throw smallfry to the balloons
Shoot the soaker block to prevent the missiles as you proceed.
When you reach the platform that is identical to the image, shoot the soaker block and climb. Shoot the other soaker block nearby then jump and wait for the right timing to hop on the missile.
The 2nd Soaker Block Is On The Right After Climbing
The 2nd soaker block is used for creating a path to ride a missile while the 1st soaker block prevents the missiles. Wait for the 1st soaker block to retract before riding a missile.
Destroy the sprinkler near the soaker block and repaint so you can traverse the path that the soaker block creates.
After riding the missile, there is another sprinkler on the left side. It is necessary to destroy and repaint the following soaker block but do not go all the way because your missile is going to be compromised. When soaker block returns to its initial state, stop shooting.
Throw smallfry to the soaker block on the left to prevent the missiles and hit the soaker block on the right to revert it to its initial state so your missile can get through.
By throwing smallfry to the balloons, the last soaker block is going to produces a path. Jump on it once you are in the range.

Understand The Features Of Each Wave
In the last checkpoint, you are going to defeat the occurring octolings. It is divided into 3 waves. In second wave, the field becomes wider, and in third wave, the enemies can use special weapons.

The Order Of The Special Cans Is Fixed
Special cans appear from the second wave. The order of appearance is fixed, and the next can appears every time you geting so use it any time. If you do not like the special weapon that you got, get the next special can to replace it.

After getting the 12th special can, the next one is going to be 1st again which is Trizooka.
Best Special Weapons Tier ListIf You See The Landing Mark, Approach & Defeat
The marks of landing point of the enemy reinforcement can be seen. When you see the marks, head to the nearest one and defeat the enemy that is going to appear.
Curling Bomb Is Recommended When Getting A Distance
Due to the large number of enemies, there are many occasions where you need to stay away from the enemy. In that case, it is recommended to use Curling Bomb to create some distance. You can set it instead of smallfry using the lower button of the cross key.
Create 1v1 Situation As Much As Possible
If you deal with multiple enemies simultaneously, you are likely to get in trouble. If you do not approach and keep a safe distance, you are not going to be attacked. Ensure to stay away from the enemy and deal with them one by one.
Escape When The Number Of Enemies Increases
Escape if you are getting chased by another enemy while fighting 1v1. You could be in danger & killed by them with their special attacks.
Flee When Enemies Use Special Weapons
Enemies using special weapons such as Inkjet and Wave Breaker can also use specials that can create unilateral advantageous situations. If these are used, run away and take a distance.
Run Away When The Suit Is Broken
If you receive an enemy attack to some extent, the suit is going to be destroyed and red shards start to splatter. In this state, your movement speed will decrease and goes down with one enemy attack so escape when possible to rebuild the system.
Use Smallfry As A Decoy
Throwing smallfry to the enemy can make the enemy to attack it. In addition to gaps, it can be used as a decoy when you are surrounded by enemies. If you throw smallfry directly, it alone can knock down the enemy but it could be difficult to hit the target so do not force yourself to do it.
Leave 1 Enemy In Wave 2 & Paint As Much Surface As Possible
The difficulty of the wave 3 is extreme so create a lot of areas where you can move as much as possible. If you leave only one enemy from wave 2 and paint the area that is far from the enemy, it will be easier to get around the first stage of the wave 3.
