What is Chaining?
Making Pokemon Continuously Call for Allies

In Sun and Moon, when a Pokemon is in a pinch, it may call for an ally, and another Pokemon may join the battle. Doing this repeatedly is what's known as SOS call chaining.
It's Not Guaranteed a Pokemon Will Come
When a Pokemon calls for an ally, it's not guaranteed that another Pokemon will join. It's necessary to increase not only the probability of calling for an ally but also the probability of an ally joining.
Chaining Results in High IV Pokemon.
By making a Pokemon call for allies multiple times within a single battle (chaining), the more allies are called, the higher the chance of encountering a Pokemon with high IVs.
Relationship Between Chain Length and IVs
Chain Length | IVs |
---|---|
5-9 calls | 1V (1 perfect IV) |
10-19 calls | 2V (2 perfect IVs) |
20-29 calls | 3V (3 perfect IVs) |
30-255 calls | 4V (4 perfect IVs) |
※From the 256th chain, the count resets to 1.
