Charizard ex Deck - Pros / Cons

  1. Powerful 200 Damage from Charizard ex
  2. Energy Acceleration with Moltres ex
  3. Stage 2 Attacker-Related Challenges

Powerful 200 Damage from Charizard ex

  1. Charizard ex
  2. Using Crimson Storm

Charizard ex's Crimson Storm can take down any Pokemon in one hit at the time of its release. Even if your opponent gains an early lead, Charizard ex can reverse the game by taking out key attackers.

Beware of Discarding 2 Energy

After using Crimson Storm, Charizard ex must Discard 2 Fire Energy from itself. Without extra Energy attached, it can’t repeat the attack consecutively, so plan accordingly.

Energy Acceleration with Moltres ex

  1. Moltres ex
  2. Using Inferno Dance

With Moltres ex, you can perform Energy Acceleration, making it easier to use Charizard ex's Crimson Storm. When you can repeatedly charge enough Energy to use Crimson Storm, Charizard ex becomes incredibly powerful.

Stage 2 Attacker-Related Challenges

  1. Charmander
  2. Charmeleon
  3. Charizard ex

Since Charizard ex is a Stage 2 Pokemon, you’ll need to draw the Evolve cards. Failing to evolve from Charmeleon to Charizard ex can leave your Pokemon vulnerable to being Knocked Out, which is a notable weakness.

Charizard ex Deck Strategy

  1. Start the Battle with Moltres ex
  2. Build Up Charizard ex on the Bench
  3. Use Charizard ex's Attack No.2 in the Late Game
Start the Battle with Moltres ex
  1. Moltres ex
  2. Charmander

In the early game, attach 1 Energy to Moltres ex and use Inferno Dance to accelerate Energy to the Benched Charmander. If your coin flips are favorable and Charmander is close to having 4 Energy, consider using Attach Energy from Zone to Moltres ex and switching to Heat Blast.

Build Up Charizard ex on the Bench
  1. Charmeleon
  2. Charizard ex

When you draw Charmeleon or Charizard ex, start evolving the Benched Charmander. It’s safer to keep other Pokemon on the Bench, like Sabrina, as a switch-in option. Ideally, aim to attach 5 or more Energy.

Use Charizard ex's Crimson Storm in the Late Game
  1. Charizard ex

Once Charizard ex has accumulated 4 or more Energy, place it in the Active Spot. Crimson Storm will discard 2 Energy after use, but with Moltres ex’s Attack or Attach Energy from Zone, you can ensure Charizard ex has 5 or more Energy to keep attacking consecutively.
