Darkrai ex & Magnezone Deck - Pros / Cons

  1. Powerful Darkrai + Magnezone combo
  2. Magneton Sustains Lightning Energy
  3. Stage 2 attackers suffer from bad hands

Powerful Darkrai + Magnezone Combo

This deck relies on the ability of Darkrai ex to deal damage while pairing with Magnezone for a combined 110 damage to knock out opponents. Until Magnezone is set up, Druddigon is used to buy time.

Magneton Sustains Lightning Energy

The Lightning Energy needed for Magnezone's Attack is provided by Magneton’s Ability, allowing you to supply energy without external help. Magnezone’s Attack requires no additional Lightning Energy, but will discard one Lightning Energy upon use. Magneton’s stage allows for multiple energy attachments, enabling repeated attacks.

Darkness Energy Enables a Multi-Colored Deck

Thanks to Magneton’s Ability, this deck can operate with only Darkness Energy, making it a viable multi-colored deck. Its ability to exploit weaknesses in various opponents adds to its strength.

Stage 2 Attackers Suffer from Bad Hands

Since Magnezone is a Stage 2 Pokemon, you need to evolve from Magneton. If you fail to evolve, you risk having Magnezone knocked out, which is one of the deck’s weaknesses.

Darkrai ex & Magnezone Deck Strategy

  1. Use Druddigon as a wall early on
  2. Prepare attackers on the Bench
  3. Attack with Magnezone once ready
Use Druddigon as a Wall Early On
  1. Druddigon
  2. Magnezone
  3. Darkrai ex

Use Druddigon as a wall to buy time while dealing damage. Ideally, hold out until Magnezone is ready and allow the opponent to take a 1-1-2 point plan. If Magnezone isn’t set up in time, switch to Darkrai ex to buy more time.

Prepare Attackers on the Bench
  1. Darkrai ex
  2. Magnezone

While Druddigon buys time, prepare attackers on the Bench. Darkrai ex’s Ability deals 20 damage to the opponent’s Active Pokemon each time a Darkness Energy is attached, allowing you to slowly deal damage alongside Druddigon’s Ability.

Don’t Evolve Magnezone Too Soon
  1. Magneton

Magneton shouldn’t be evolved into Magnezone right away. This deck lacks Lightning Energy, so Magneton needs to provide itself with its Ability. To consistently attack with Magnezone, hold off on evolving until absolutely necessary.

Attack with Magnezone Once Ready
  1. Magnezone
  2. Darkrai ex
  3. Druddigon

Once ready, switch Magnezone into the Active Spot. Ideally, you should have already dealt damage using Darkrai ex and Druddigon’s Abilities, bringing the opponent’s remaining HP within Magnezone’s 110-damage attack range for a clean KO.
