Primeape Deck - Pros / Cons

  1. Can Deal Heavy Damage with Primeape
  2. Possible To Strike Quickly By Exploiting Weakness
  3. There Is A Significant Difference In Strength Between Going First And Second

Can Deal Heavy Damage With Primeape

Mankey will take 10 damage from using its Attack, but by evolving into Primeape, it can use an Attack that has an incredible efficiency of 100 damage for 2 Energy. If used consecutively from Mankey, it can knock out Pokemon with up to 130 HP.

Possible To Strike Quickly By Exploiting Weakness

There are relatively many Pokemon with the Fighting type as weakness, including Electric Type, Normal Type, and Dark Type Pokemon. By using Giovanni, it is possible to one-hit KO many Basic Pokemon that have a Fighting type weakness.

There Is a Significant Difference In Strength Between Going First And Second

Since the Promo version of Mankey only has 50 HP, if going first, using an Attack often leads to being knocked out on the return turn. If going second, it is usually fine to send Mankey out, but if going first, it’s better to try to put another Pokemon in the Active Spot.

Primeape Deck Strategy

  1. Start with Mankey as your active Pokemon
  2. Earn Damage Early with Primeape
  3. Use Golem to take down large Pokemon
Start with Mankey as Your Active Pokemon
  1. Mankey (Promo)

Try to start with Mankey as your active Pokemon. Geodude has a retreat cost of 2 Energy, making it difficult to retreat back to the bench and safely evolve.

Be Cautious with Mankey
  1. Mankey (Promo)

If you attack with Mankey on the first turn going second, your remaining HP will drop to 40, which significantly increases the risk of being knocked out by a return attack. Be careful not to get knocked out before evolving into Primeape.

Deal Early Damage with Primeape
  1. Primeape

If Mankey attacks or takes damage, Primeape can then deal 100 damage with just 2 Energy. Focus on this aggressive playstyle for early pressure.

Use Golem to Take Down Large Pokemon
  1. Golem

When facing Pokemon ex or other large threats that Primeape can't handle, switch to Golem. Grow Geodude on your bench, and once evolved, use Brock for Energy Acceleration to deal 150 damage.
