Primeape Deck - Pros / Cons

  1. Can deal heavy damage with Primeape
  2. Possible to strike quickly by exploiting weakness
  3. There is a significant difference in strength between going first and second

Can Deal Heavy Damage With Primeape

Mankey will take 10 damage from using its Attack, but by evolving into Primeape, it can use an Attack that has an incredible efficiency of 100 damage for 2 Energy. If used consecutively from Mankey, it can knock out Pokemon with up to 130 HP.

Possible To Strike Quickly By Exploiting Weakness

There are relatively many Pokemon with the Fighting type that exploit weakness, including Lightning Type, Colorless Type, and Darkness Type Pokemon. By using Giovanni, it is possible to one-hit KO many Basic Pokemon that have a Fighting type weakness.

There Is A Significant Difference In Strength Between Going First And Second

Since the Promo version of Mankey only has 50 HP, if going first, using an Attack often leads to being knocked out on the return turn. If going second, it is usually fine to send Mankey out, but if going first, it’s better to try to put another Pokemon in the Active Spot.

Primeape Deck Strategy

  1. Decide your first move based on the opponent's Energy
  2. Earn damage early with Primeape
  3. Take down large Pokemon with Marowak ex
Decide your first move based on the opponent's Energy
  1. Mankey (Promo)
  2. Cubone
  3. Farfetch

In this deck, the Basic Pokemon weaknesses are as follows: Mankey is weak to Psychic, Cubone is weak to Grass, and Farfetch'd is weak to Lightning. If you can choose your first move, you want to place a Pokemon that won't be exploited for weakness based on the opponent's Energy.

Be cautious with Mankey
  1. Mankey (Promo)

If you attack with Mankey on the first turn going second, your remaining HP will drop to 40, which significantly increases the risk of being knocked out by a return attack. Be careful not to get knocked out before evolving into Primeape.

Earn damage early with Primeape
  1. Primeape

If you're following the flow of attacking with Mankey or being attacked, Primeape can deal 100 damage with 2 Energy. Basically, aim for this aggressive style of fighting.

Take down large Pokemon with Marowak ex
  1. Marowak ex

If it's tough to handle the opponent's Pokemon ex with Primeape, you'll need to rely on Marowak ex. The injured Primeape at the start can become a 100 damage attacker without the need for a coin toss in the late game, so try to keep it alive if possible.
