Skarmory & Bastiodon Deck - Pros / Cons

  1. Defeat Basic Pokemon before they evolve
  2. Strong against Stage 2-focused decks
  3. Weak in long-term battles

Defeat Basic Pokemon Before They Evolve

  1. Skarmory Attack - Metal Arms
  2. Defeat Basic Pokemon before they evolve

Focus on defeating Basic Pokemon like Skarmory by equipping items to Knock Out low-HP Pokemon with your first attack. This strategy may force your opponent to run out of Pokemon after just one turn.

Strong Against Stage 2-Focused Decks

Since Stage 2 Pokemon have less than 100 HP before evolving, it’s often possible to take them out in the Stage 1 phase, even if Basic Pokemon can’t be defeated. Basic Pokemon often have low HP, so this deck has a relatively favorable matchup against Stage 2-focused decks.

Weak in Long Battles

  1. Armor Fossil
  2. Shieldon
  3. Bastiodon

If you can’t draw the Fossils, you won’t be able to set up your third Pokemon. In addition, the lack of high-damage Pokemon makes long battles difficult. If the game drags on, you’ll be relying on damage reduction from Bastiodon's Ability.

Skarmory & Bastiodon Deck Strategy

  1. Attack with Skarmory
  2. Play fossil cards on turn 2
  3. Rely on Bastiodon at the end
Attack with Skarmory
  1. Skarmory
  2. Sabrina
  3. Giovanni

The first Pokemon to deploy should always be Skarmory, so equip it with Pokemon Tools and focus on attacking.

If you have Giovanni, you can aim for a One-Hit KO up to 60 HP, and use Sabrina to bring out Pokemon from the Bench to score points.

Play Fossil Cards on Turn 2
  1. Armor Fossil
  2. Shieldon

Shieldon requires 2 Energy to use its Attack, so the basic strategy is to attach one Energy to it during the Fossil phase and then Evolve it. Since you'll be attaching Energy to Skarmory first, you can safely bring out Fossil cards starting from the second turn.

Rely on Bastiodon at the End
  1. Bastiodon
  2. Rocky Helmet

In most cases, the order of deployment for the Active Spot should be Skarmory → Skarmory → Bastiodon. Ideally, you should keep a Rocky Helmet for Bastiodon to increase its damage dealt.
