Torterra Deck - Pros / Cons

  1. Torterra's consistent 150 damage is powerful
  2. Include a Pokemon that can act early on
  3. Deck is not very consistent

Torterra's Consistent 150 Damage is Powerful

The strength of the Torterra deck lies in the main Pokemon, Torterra, being able to consistently deal 150 damage. This is enough to knock out most Pokemon ex with a one-hit KO, allowing you to focus on setting up for a checkmate once you've already taken one point.

Include a Pokemon that Can Act Early On

Torterra is a Stage 2 Pokemon that requires a lot of Energy to attack, meaning it typically only becomes effective in the latter part of the game. As a result, it's necessary to include a Pokemon like Exeggutor ex that can act early and provide strong support in the beginning.

Deck is Not Very Consistent

The fact that Torterra cannot repeatedly deal 150 damage due to its attack effect is a significant issue. It's challenging to aim for a "wall Pokemon to stall and main attacker to secure 3 points" setup. As a result, the deck is generally quite difficult to handle.

Torterra Deck Strategy

  1. Use Exeggutor ex as a tank at the start
  2. Evolve Torterra while it's on the Bench
  3. Switch with a Benched Pokemon and aim for the knockout
Use Exeggutor Ex as a Tank at the Start
  1. Exeggutor ex

Use Exeggutor ex as a wall in the early game to stall and chip away at the opponent's HP. If Turtwig is in the Active Spot, use Leaf to retreat it to the Bench and then Switch to a more advantageous Pokemon.

Evolve Torterra While It's on the Bench
  1. Turtwig
  2. Grotle
  3. Torterra

While using Pokemon Communication, attach Energy to your Bench and evolve into Torterra. If evolving next turn is guaranteed and you're not in a situation where your Pokemon will be Knocked Out, it’s fine to have Grotle Knock Out the opponent’s Pokemon.

Target the knockout by switching to the Bench
  1. Torterra
  2. きずぐすり
  3. Erika

When Torterra is powered up, place it in the Active Spot and target your opponent's Pokemon for a Knock Out. If you're unable to finish the job, use a Trainer card to heal HP and turn the tide.
