Golem Deck - Pros / Cons

  1. Golem has High Durability
  2. Energy Acceleration Using Brock
  3. Difficult to Evolve to Stage 2

Golem has High Durability

  1. Guard Press
  2. Reduce Attack damage

The main card of the deck, Golem can reduce the damage it takes, effectively having over 190 HP. The damage it deals is quite high at 120, and can Knock Out most Pokemon with one or two attacks.

Number of Attacks Required to Knock Out Golem

DMG100
-180
9070-8060
Attacks2 times3 times4 times6 times

Considering Golem's Attack effect, it is difficult to defeat Golem with an attack that deals less than 90 damage. Your opponent will need a Pokemon that can deal 100 damage or more, so it can be powerful against decks that can only deal low damage.

Energy Acceleration Using Brock

  1. Brock
  2. Golem (Mythical Island)

Golem can use Energy Acceleration with Brock making it possible to attack every turn while evolving from GeodudeGraveler→Golem.

Difficult to Evolve to Stage 2

  1. Geodude
  2. Graveler (Mythical Island)

Golem is a Stage 2 Pokemon so there is a chance to get bad hands, preventing you from Evolving. The deck also lacks Drawing ability cards, so adding a second attacker such as Marshadow is recommended.

Golem Deck Strategy

  1. Set Up A Wall And Evolve Into Golem
  2. Chip Away HP With Other Pokemon
  3. Take Down The Opponent's Ace With Golem
Set Up A Wall And Evolve Into Golem
  1. Druddigon
  2. Hitmonlee

In the early game, use Druddigon or Hitmonlee as walls to protect Geodude on the Bench while evolving it into Golem.

Start With Geodude If Going Second

If you're going second and have the full evolution line for Golem in your hand, it can be effective to start with Geodude in the Active Spot, using its Attack while evolving into Golem. This strategy is particularly strong if you have Brock in your hand, as it allows for continuous Attacks.

Chip Away HP With Other Pokemon
  1. Hitmonlee
  2. Geodude
  3. Marshadow

While preparing Golem, chip away at the opponent's Pokemon to bring their HP below 120, putting them in One-Hit KO range. Ideally, use Hitmonlee to damage Pokemon on the Bench as well. Depending on the situation, you can also use Marshadow to secure points outright.

Take Down The Opponent's Ace With Golem
  1. Golem (Mythical Island)

Once Golem is ready, bring it to the Active Spot to score points. If Golem can take down the opponent's ace Pokemon, its Ability ensures that it is unlikely to be defeated by Basic Pokemon. Leverage the fact that this deck is focused on Single-Prize Pokemon to force the opponent's ace into play and eliminate it strategically.
