- Select "Fishing" in the Ability Wheel.
- Go to a fishing spot and press the ability button to start fishing.
- When you get a bite, start reeling the fish in by pulling down.
- Tilt the fishing rod in the opposite direction of the moving fish.
- Tap the ability button repeatedly to reel in the fish.
- Repeat Steps 4 and 5 until you catch the fish.
Before you start fishing, press the Ability Wheel button and set your "Fishing" ability. If a different ability is selected you won't be able to fish, even if you stand near a fishing spot.
The fishing ability will be unlocked after the Timis event in Chapter 1 of the main story. To use this ability, you need to obtain the sketch from the Heart of Infinity and create a Fishing Outfit.
After equipping the fishing outfit, position Nikki in front of a fishing spot and press the ability button. If you're within the correct spot, Nikki will automatically cast the bait into the water, and you can now start fishing.
When a fish takes the bait, a pop-up message, "Got a Bite!" will appear at the top of your screen. This is your signal to start reeling the fish in by pulling (moving) down.
Move in the opposite direction of the way the fish is fleeing. It's either the left or right, so move in the other direction if the circle gauge doesn't change.
When the fish's stamina (represented by the circle gauge) is depleted, tap the ability button repeatedly to reel the fish in. Once the fish icon at the top of the screen reaches the flag on the left, you can obtain the fish.
Even if you can't catch the fish on the first try, you can still catch it by repeating steps 4 and 5. Rarer types of fish may require multiple tries, so be patient when fishing those rare fish.
A Whimstar Can Be Obtained by Fishing
Certain fish will give you a Whimstar by catching them. If they manage to escape, don't worry as they will constantly reappear. Keep trying until you catch them.

Look for Circular Ripples in the Water
Fishing spots are circular areas marked by ripples in the water. If you're looking for a specific fish, use the material search function to locate a fishing spot where it can be found.
Look for Areas With Piers or Buildings
Fishing spots are typically found near piers and structures. You usually won't find any fish in areas with nothing around nearby, so we recommend looking for them around Florawish or near a warp point.
