Once a character hits their current maximum level, you must perform a Breakthrough to raise their level cap. Breakthroughs require specific materials based on the character's Class, and sometimes require you to progress further in the Main Quest.
Breakthrough Also Strengthens Stats
Performing a Breakthrough permanently boosts stats on its own! Even if you don't have enough EXP items to level them up right away, you should always perform a Breakthrough when it becomes available.

While Headgear, Chestpieces, and Gloves have fixed main effects, Footwear's main effect has a 1/4 chance to roll an Aptitude for a specific Class. Remember that this effect will not activate if the Class listed on the Footwear does not match the character wearing it!

Many sets of equipment exist in the game. By equipping multiple pieces from the same set, you will trigger powerful additional bonus effects.
