Debuff Types and Effects

Basically 5 Types

Debuff Types

There are 5 types of debuff icons, with 5 basic effects. Within each type, each skill has slightly different effects.

Hesitant Type / Speed Debuff

Front RunnerHesitant TypeCauses hesitation and slightly decreases velocity.

Hesitant-type Debuffs have the effect of lowering speed. This includes Intense Gaze and Speed Eater, with Speed Eater having the effect of "stealing" speed from runners behind when in the lead mid-race.

Panic Type / Stamina Debuff

Front RunnerPanic/Stamina DebuffCauses panic and makes them slightly more prone to fatigue

Panic/Stamina Debuff has the effect of consuming Stamina. Examples include Murmur, Sharp Gaze, and Stamina Eater.

Tactics Type / Frenzied

Front Runner Tactics IconTactics TypeWhen affected, it takes longer to calm down

Tactics-type (Frenzied) debuffs extend the duration of the Rushed state. They only take effect if the opponent is already Rushed and are less effective against opponents with high Wit.

Disruption Type

Disruption IconDisruption TypeSlightly narrows field of view

Disruption-type debuffs narrow the field of vision, making Pace Chaser, Late Surger, and End Closer Umamusume more likely to be blocked and making it harder for them to overtake.

Groundwork Type

Groundwork IconGroundwork TypeSlightly dulls their movement

Groundwork-type debuffs have the effect of lowering acceleration. Opening Gambit and Restart lower acceleration in the opening leg of the race, making them highly effective against Front Runners.

Recommended Debuff Types

Recommended Debuff Types

Hesitation-Type is Rarely Wasted

Hesitation-type debuffs that lower Speed are recommended as they are unlikely to be wasted. As long as the activation target is correct, they are effective against any Umamusume.

Use Panic for Medium Distance or Longer

Panic-type debuffs that lower Stamina are highly effective against Umamusume who have their Stamina tuned to the bare minimum. They are recommended for Medium and Long distance races. However, they may not be very effective against Umamusume with plenty of Stamina.

Tip!Stamina reduction in particular is often less effective unless you aim for multiple activations, so it's recommended to narrow your focus and have multiple Umamusume learn debuffs of the same type.

Debuff Mechanics

Does Not Affect Allies

Does Not Affect Allies

▲The image is from a Team Trials race when Grass Wonder's 'Dominator' activates.

An Umamusume affected by a debuff is covered in a purple haze. In the image above, when 'Dominator' activates, the opponent Rice Shower is covered in the purple effect, but the allied McQueen and Maruzensky are not. This shows that there is no effect on allies.

Does Not Affect Self

Does not affect self

▲Image of 'Frenzied Pace Chasers' activating. This is an image of the skill activating and the moment right after, but no purple haze has appeared.

Debuffs also do not affect the user. When the skill activates, "Endurance Reduced" appears, but this just signifies the skill's activation, and the target on which the effect has activated will have a purple haze.

Do Debuff Effects Stack?

Confirmed to Reactivate After Some Time

  • Debuff Test 1
  • Debuff Test 2
  • Debuff Test 3

From left to right, you can see the skill activating, the effect ending, and then the skill activating again.

During testing, activation could only be confirmed by the haze effect, so while we could confirm that multiple debuffs can occur simultaneously, we could not confirm if their effects stack when occurring at the same time. We did confirm the effect when a skill activated again after some time had passed since the initial activation.

Tip!Since it reactivates after some time, it seems that even if they don't stack on simultaneous activation, it wouldn't be a complete waste to have multiple Umamusume with the same debuff.

May Differ Depending on Skill Type

Front RunnerFront Runner's PanicIn the middle leg of the race, causes Front Runner Umamusume to panic, making them slightly more prone to fatigue
Pace ChaserPace Chaser's HesitationIn the final leg of the race, causes Pace Chaser Umamusume to hesitate, slightly lowering their speed

On social media, it is said that some stack and some do not. We tested this with 'Front Runner's Panic' and 'Pace Chaser's Hesitation'. We have confirmed that both can affect the same Umamusume multiple times in a single race, but it is unknown if their effects stack when activated simultaneously.

Possibility of Stacking

In this test, since we judged by the effect, we could not confirm stacking on simultaneous activation, but it's possible the effects are stacking internally.
