Selling animal meat, pelts, and eggs is a viable source of income in Red Dead Redemption 2. Traders will pay good money for high quality meat and pelt so make sure to always get a clean kill.

The quality of the meat and pelt depends on shot placement, the weapon used to kill it, and freshness of the carcass. It's best to take kills to the traders as soon as possible to preserve freshness.
How to Get Clean Kills
Shot placement and weapons are key to clean kills. Stick to small caliber weapons like bows and Varmint Rifles when hunting and aim for their neck or their head. It's also better to kill them in one shot.
Loot Crafting Materials from Animals
Crafting materials like pelts can be taken from animals and turned into clothing or other items. Some crafting materials are exclusive to certain animals however.
Feed Your Camp with the Meat
Meat from animals will help feed your camp for a day. Keep the bellies of your companions happy with a good meat in the stew pot.
Hunting Tips & Tricks
Use Eagle Eye to Track Animal Scents
Animal scents and blood can be tracked with Eagle Eye. Activating it will show a blue stream for scents or a red stream for blood that you can follow to locate them.
Study & Track Animals with Binoculars
When you spot an animal with the binoculars, you will have the option to study and track them. Scan areas while on your horse to get a good vantage point and see animals from a distance.
Mark Weak Points with Dead Eye
You can use Dead Eye to make hunting a bit easier. Mark animal weak spots like their necks to kill them in one shot and preserving their quality.
Use Bows for Cleaner Kills
Shot placement and weapon choice plays a part in the quality of the meat. Bows on the other hand will always do a clean kill, putting the meat at its highest quality!

You can skin animals right where you killed them or bring them back whole depending on your preference. You can strap on animals to the back of your horse so bringing them to shops is easier.
Hunt for Legendary Animals
There are a number of Legendary Animals in the game that you can hunt for their unique materials! There are only one of each Legendary Animal so finding them can be quite a challenge.
How to Hunt for Legendary Animals
Check Their General Location in the Map
Legendary Animal locations will be marked in your map upon the completion of the Chapter 2 - Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego mission. You can find them as Animals with a crown in the map.
Look for Clues in the Area
You won't be able to find the Legendary Animal by just going around its location. You need to find clues marked as a question mark in your map. It also glows yellow when you use Eagle Eye.
Kill the Legendary Animal to Take its Materials
To get their pelt and crafting ingredients, you will have to kill the Legendary Animal. No need to worry about how to kill it since its pelt will always be in perfect condition.
What Can You Do With Legendary Animal Materials?
Craft Unique Clothing at the Trapper
Take the Legendary pelt to the Trapper to craft it into unique clothing! You can view the crafting ingredients as well as whether its fit for which weather at the Outfits tab of the Trapper menu.
Create Talismans at the Fence
Materials taken from the Legendary Animals can be turned into Talisman that give you perks at the Fence. Select the "Crafting" option to see what talismans you can make from which materials and their effects.

Legendary Beaver
The Legendary Beaver can be found at the Elysian Pool in New Hanover. You will know you're in the right area when you get a prompt that you have entered a Legendary Animal's location!

Legendary Bharati Grizzly Bear
The Legendary Beaver can be found in the Grizzlies. Use O'Creagh's Run as your landmark then start moving north until you get the prompt that you have entered the Legendary animal's territory.
