Character Origin & Backstory

Inkling first appeared in Splatoon released in 2015. Inklings can change between human form and squid form. They battle by using weapons that shoot ink to cover the ground and walls.

Did You Know? Facts About the Fighter

In the Splatoon series, Inklings cover the ground and walls in ink, and then swim through that ink as a squid. But if they fall into water, the ink in their bodies will diffuse and they'll disolve.

3 Unlock Methods Available

There are in total, 3 ways of unlocking / adding new character to your roster in SSBU. By completing either one of these condition will unlock these Fighter to be used in Smash Mode and Classic Mode.

Refilling Ink

Shield and press the special-move button to refill your ink tank. If you're totally empty, you can use neutral special or down special on the ground to refill your ink tank.

Running Out of Ink

When you don't have enough ink, special moves and smash attacks will become less effective. Replenish ink by holding down the special-move button while shielding.

Cover Opponents with Ink with Down Smash

A down smash attack that splashes ink left and right with a Slosher. It's very effective at covering opponents with ink.

Killer Wail - Final Smash

Killer Wail
The Inkling sets up the Killer Wail, which fires a sonic blast. The beam damages and launches anyone caught in its path. The angle can be adjusted up or down. You can also move away from the beam and attack on your own.

Shoots a stream of ink. Tilting up or down adjusts the angle of the attack.
Side Super

13.2%[Splat Roller]
Pushes the Splat Roller, buring any opponents hit by it. Tilting left or right changes the direction.
Up Super
(↑ + B)
9.6%[Super Jump]
Transforms into a squid and jumps straight up. Tilting left or right can change the angle a little.
Down Super
(↓ + B)
13.0%[Splat Bomb]
Throws as Splat Bomb, which explodes when it hits or after time passes. Holding the button tosses it farther.
