Character Origin & Backstory

Ness first appeared in the SNES title EarthBound, released in North America in 1995. He might look like your average kid, but he can use a variety of PSI powers. He's also got a younger sister.

Ness is the main character of EarthBound. In that game, a messenger from the future entrusts him with the fate of the world, and Ness heads out to stop the evil plans of an invader named Glygas.

There are in total, 3 ways of unlocking / adding new character to your roster in SSBU. By completing either one of these condition will unlock these Fighter to be used in Smash Mode and Classic Mode.

Return Projectile Attack to Sender with Side Smash Attack

Ness's bat leaves him open to attack, but it has epic launching power. He can even hit projectiles with it!

Backward Throw Flings Enemy Far If Damaged Enough

Enemies with a higher damage percentage are much easier to launch with this. You can knock them out completely if they're damaged enought!

Use Floaty Double Jump to Pursue Enemy Off Stage

When an enemy is trying to get back on the stage, you can ruin their day with your side or down attack. But try not to self-destruct!

With the help of Paula and Poo, Ness calls down a shower of meteors that damage any foes they hit. The meteors fall faster as time passes. The meteors' trajectory can be adjusted slightly with left or right input.

Shoots light out straight ahead or diagonally while airborne. Bursts into a pillar of flame if it hits someone.
Up Super
(↑ + B)
13.2%[PK Thunder]
Fires a steerable ball of lightning. Sends Ness flying if he hits himself.
Down Super
(↓ + B)
4.8%[PSI Magnet]
Absorbs energy-based projectiles and weak explosions to heal damage.
