A Bridge Baby or BB in Death Stranding is a baby that has been removed from a "stillmother", a brain dead mother in the ICU, and placed into a portable pod. BBs provide a connection to the world of the dead via its stillmother.

With its connection to the world of the dead, BBs are mainly used to sense the presence of Beached Things. They are strapped onto Bridge operatives and plugged in as they travel through different areas.

Aside from scanning terrain, when connected with BB, odradek scanner will point to the nearest BT within range. BTs will also be rendered a bit more visible when using a scan, provided BB isn't in Autotoxemia state.

BBs have a fragile countenance and need to keep believing they are in their mother's womb while they are in the portable pod. BBs that continue to experience high amounts of stress will shorten their already limited lifespan.

BB will fall into a state of Autotoxemia if the stress was too much to handle. It will turn black & cannot be soothed until you go back to your private room. You'll lose your ability to spot BTs effectively, so protect BB from Autotoxemia!

Avoid BT, Sudden Movements, And Submersion

BB's stress level will rise dramatically when Sam is near near BTs, doing a lot of sudden movements, or submerged in water. This means the player will need to consider taking a smoother path instead of brawling with the terrain.

Interact During Your Travels

Interacting with BB and making sure it doesn't get stressed is an important part of your journey. Make sure to soothe BB by playing it some music with a harmonica, etc. to keep its stress levels low.

You can change the method you can sooth BB from motion to L2 buttons from Settings -> Gameplay -> Control Settings. It'll make things soothing BB easier, just don't press L2 too hard to not rattle BB.

In your travels, you may come across hot springs that Sam can bathe in. He'll bring BB along to recharge its batteries & make him happy. Hot springs will also lower BB's stress levels.

Occasionally, BB needs to be placed in a synchronization incubator to update its portable pod. Doing so will keep its pod up to date with its stillmother's information, lowering its stress levels greatly.
